Stanley Kubrick's final film is a mature, highly intelligent, thrilling masterpiece of sexual obsession and marital (in)fidelity. Tom Cruise stars as Bill Harford, a doctor who becomes obsessed with a sexual fantasy that his wife, Alice (Nicole Kidman), confesses to him. Although the fantasy (involving a naval officer) occurred only in Alice's mind, Bill can't get it out of his own head; his obsession leads him through a series of potential sexual encounters, each one surrounded by the specter of death. His whole world threatens to unravel as he falls deeper and deeper into a web of mystery, lies, and deceit.Kubrick's film breathes with vivid blues, reds, and blacks, the threat of illicit sex and death lurking around every corner. Cruise and Kidman, who are married in real life, are utterly convincing as a happy couple suddenly forced to reexamine their faith in each other. Sidney Pollack, Todd Field, Julienne Davis, Marie Richardson, and Vinessa Shaw sparkle in minor roles. Based on the novella TRAUMNOVELLE by Arthur Schnitzler, EYES WIDE SHUT is a brilliant examination of the psychological nature of sex and marriage, of faith and faithlessness, of obsession and desire. Kubrick said that his last film (he died shortly before the film opened) was "my best film ever;" while that is debatable, there is no doubting that the film is a splendid finale to a glorious career.

    Thought Provoking

    Very sexy and provocative characters, who always keep one guessing. I highly recommend this film due to the complex nature of the story and being a Kubrick film, which unfortunately, would turn out to be his swan song.

    Waste of money very boring no action ! Wish I never bought this ! Worse ever tom did and Nicole was just ok ! Tom never makes a bad movie but this one was awful

    Eyes Wide Shut

    Stanley Kubrick's(Director) final film is one of his best. Features an ALL Star cast. Interetingly Sydney Pollack, an outstanding award winning director, plays a feature role in this film as well. Nicole Kidman & Tom Cruise are exceptional in their respective performances. I originally saw this film on HBO and decided it was worth a copy for my video library.

    Features the low point of a married couple

    Beautiful successful couple find discord in their marriage when the wife confesses something personal about desires. Husband is thrown into mental turmoil and finds himself exploring a dark underworld of sex and a secret society. Recognized as a fraud, he is tossed out of the sexy mysterious place and begins to see oddities in the world around him, snooping gets him into trouble and warned/threatened. He falls back onto his wife and confesses his actions as of late only to find her sad but cold. Movie progresses and there is a happy ending.

    I bought the product as I am in the process of learning everything Kubrick; the late, great film Director was the MASTER of Cinema that did not get his just due from Hollywood. Also I am a big, big fan of Nicole Kidman, and a fan of Tom Cruise. How can this be anything but a superior product? What I liked about this product was the movie, of course, but the DVD did have interesting Special Features; Interviews with Kidman, Cruise, and fellow Director Steven Spielberg, another Directors' work I greatly admire. There was nothing to dislike about this product. Yes, I would buy the product again, and also recommend this product to a friend.
