About this product

Product Information

Developed in Japan in the early 1990s, metal clay represents a dramatic development in the handling of precious metals for jewelrymaking. Metal clay consists of microscopic particles of silver or gold suspended in a pliable organic binder that can be worked with the hands and simple household tools, eliminating the need for difficult metalworking processes such as soldering, hammering, and cutting. When metal clay is fired, the binder burns away and the metal particles fuse into pure (99.9 percent) metal. "The Art of Metal Clay" is a comprehensive introduction to the medium designed specifically for crafters and jewelrymakers, detailing the essentials of working, firing, and finishing metal clay to create beautiful jewelry and decorative objects. Artist and instructor Sherri Haab demonstrates metal clay s remarkable versatility, showing how it can be textured, molded, carved, and sculpted to create gorgeous beads, bracelets, pendants, earrings, rings, and other jewelry settings, plus boxes and vessels. She also reveals how to combine metal clay with polymer clay, glass, and epoxy resin to create unique mixed-media pieces. An essential resource for anyone who wants the latest information on this up-and-coming crafts medium "

  • Great Book!

This book is wonderful...It gives history of metal clay and full descriptions of the products available. I am very excited to use it and plan to make some of the projects inside it. It has step by step instructions on all the projects and gives wonderful examples and knowledge. After reading this book you will have very few questions because everything is answered for you. It is inspiring and makes you want to start to work with Metal Clay right away. A teacher I had recommended it to me and I know she feels the same way about the book. It's wonderful and I fully intend on utilizing it to the fullest.

  • Metal Clay Basics

This book is a good starting point for metal clay. I always get a book for learning something new, and this is a good entry level book. I find a formal class to be more effective, if I already understand the process, since I pick up more advanced information from the instructor. The explanation for the proper use of different types of clay is thorough, and easily understood. Some of the examples are interesting enough that I intend to make them soon. I will keep this for a reference on firing times and temperatures as I go forward. I bought a second copy for my sister to read, instead of sending her mine when I finish. I recommend this book as a good starting point in metal clay. I have already bought my first batch of clay and will fire within the month.

  • A wonderful book on working with metal clay

Sherry Haab's "The Art of Metal Clay" is one of the seminal books on working with this fascinating material. Her projects are mostly simple and easy to follow, yet attractive. She provides excellent, clear instructions, and the photographs are extremely helpful. This should be one of the first metal clay books you invest in.

  • Great book

This is a very nice book, but I didn’t realize I needed a kiln.
