Best Version I've Seen.
I've always been a big fan of this movie. I've had a VHS version for at least 10 years. Recently I ordered this movie through Netflix to see a DVD version. Got way more than I bargained for. Many scenes were cut from this Italian made film when it was released in America. Even though I always loved this movie those deleted scenes left a few holes in the story. This Synapse version filled the holes. Also, the clarity was much better and the screen was wider. Not all the DVD's are uncensored like this one. I bought another one that claimed to be uncut....ha, exactly like my vhs version. If you like Barbara Steele, old spooky ghost stories, excellent acting and a great story, do yourself a favor and get the Synapse Dvd version of this film.I've always been a big fan of this movie. A Barbara Steele Classic
Barbara Steele was the reigning queen of horror movies in the early 60's. Castle of Blood, also known as Castle of Terror, was done in 1964. A British writer/poet accepts a bet from none other than Edgar Allan Poe, that he will not be able to spend the night in Blackwood's haunted castle. A lot of atmospheric goose bumps and of course, Steele makes the picture as eerie as possible. Done in B&W which adds even more to the spookiness of the whole thing. Is Love stronger than death ? and beyond death,is Love still possible ? We all,once,had these questions in our mind; May be,we will find the beginning of an answer by watching this fabulous cult film. Everything is excellent.Barbara STEELE is unforgettable and the plot emphasized by the Riz Ortolani's score,leaves us no possibility to forget what we saw ! But,who would forget it ?
