The Original Text for Neuro Linguisitic Programming
This is a great book, and not just for those in the mental health professions. Sales people, also, and many others, have benefited from techniques related to NLP, as they can be applied to many aspects of life and interpersonal relationships. The famous self–help guru Anthony Robbins picked up on the usefulness of NLP concepts in self–help and sales training in the early 1980s, and it has become a staple principle for discussion in that arena ever since. This book, which evolved from Bandler’s thesis, is surprisingly accessible for an academic work. Those not involved as professionals in psychology or therapy may want to stop about halfway through the book, as it gets into more of the therapeutic techniques, but the early chapters would be very useful for salespeople and others who are ... Invaluable resource for individuals hoping to understand and incorporate NLP into their clinical practice or for other applications, including business negotiations, legal mediation, etc.. The seller had this listed under occult, and I suppose that the results of NLP can almost seem otherworldly for those who don't know about it. These 2 volumes describe so called meta-models, or the structure of the strategies for accomplishing things that people who are very successful at accomplishing those things, whatever they may be, are using. Virtually any person, if they understand and then employ such a model, can accomplish essentially the same success. I had the paperback versions years ago, but my son thought they were about magic, and lifted them when he went through a want to be a magician ... Managers, salespeople, parents, teachers, and others who are interested in improving their ability to get on with people will be surprised at the techniques they find. If this one turns you on, check out the second volume of “The Structure of Magic” delve deeper into the subject. There is a perhaps more famous book, “Frogs into Princes” which is basically a transcript of a 2-day seminar on NLP by these ... I am not a therapist and the book is pretty much geared in their direction. This makes it a bit of a hard read. That having been said it provides a lot of interesting insights into what people really mean as opposed to what they really say. It also confronts you with the assumptions that you are making about the things you hear. Some people will tend to skip over some of the more technical parts and if that is the only way you can read it, you will still be better off than not reading it at all. But I suggest you turn off the TV, push on some Zen music and focus ---- might save your job, your marriage or even your life.I am not a therapist and the book is pretty much geared in their direction.
