    crazy, strange, but likeable

    Sean Connery was already a superstar by the time he chose to take on the lead role in A fine madness. he had starred in 3 james bond movies and was a box office smash. A fine madness could not be more different to 007. perhaps thats why he did it. In it, he plays the part of a poet. He is a womaniser, a bum who cant stay in a job for long and a dreamer. His suffering with wife tries to look after him, but he has a terrible temper. He flies off the handle at the slightest thing and on top of that, he keeps trying to avoid the lawyers and police, who are after him for not paying alimony. and after that dark description, you will be amazed to hear that its a comedy. now despite the fact that this film is a low budget, manically written and sometimes bizarre movie.     What's not to discover about an actor who is iconic for one roll? An actor who can stretch himself into many unknown rolls. Case in point; Connery, that's Sean Connery, the same one who made Bond, James Bond his own. I recall in the early days of my youth, when I was discovery the movies, and how I awed by Sean Connery's persona of James Bond. I did some research and found he had done other movies. My search lead me to Hitchcock's Marnie, but too young to understand it, recalled seeing Darby O'Gill and the Little People, but I felt I was now to old to enjoy. My search to see Connery in other roles was limited. Fortunately, Connery did not let me stop him, he went on to make other movies between his James Bond roll, and I would slowly discover them.
