Great deal on a classic DSLR
Had always wanted to try photography and was able to find this great camera . I didn't have much money to spend and my buddy suggested this one. Ive already used it a few times and just now learning how to make adjustments on the fly. Really a great starter DSLR .

Excellant camera.
Very good camera in my opinion. The only limitation is that this model does not have an internal motor for auto-focus lenses. So,the lens itself must have the motor instead. The 18-55mm lens that came with this does have the motor inside, so auto-focus works with it. The lack of auto-focus for my larger lenses does not bother me since I use only manual focus and other manual settings anyway. Auto-focus lies, and I've missed more pics on it than I ever did manual. The other auto features on this camera are very good though. A novice can take good photos of portraits, landscapes, sunsets, etc with those settings. For shooting, it is great! The features are easily programmable from the menu. The display is easy to understand. The other controls are in good locations on the camera body and ... Very good camera in my opinion. WOW what great pictures it takes. easy to learn, very fast shutter, light weight. i have taken only about 200 photos so far and purchased a 55-200vr lense to go along with the 18-55 lense that came with the camera. together these lenses and camera take the best pictures I have ever taken. EXCELLENT. there are many cameras out there that take good pictures but NIKON cameras with their lenses are second to none for the price. my friend is a professional and this is the camera she carries every day for fast accurate day to day shots. Highly Recommend for all around pictures
Great camera for all around picture taking. Especially love the continuous shooting ability for running toddlers! Very easy to use, great flash options, highly recommend.

if you have a choice between the D40 and the "D40X" , You absolutely and definitely NEED to go with the "D40X" , the follow up "X" is 5 times the camera the D40 is , all the small irritating things the regular D40 has plenty of are happily absent from the "D40X" an absolutely beautiful performer . its a great camera for the fast pic on the move , getting the kids or the grandchildren in the act of being themselves without the posing .
