Old-school goodness
Harmagedon's about a band of psychic warriors from all over the world teaming together to stop a great evil called Genma. Pretty typical stuff, yeah, but I still like it. My favorite character would be the black kid warrior from New York, and while most of the others are fleshed out, I don't feel that the stoic Native American and old Indian sage were developed enough. As most of you may know already, Katsuhiro Otomo (of Akira and Steamboy fame) was the character designer for this movie...it's very interesting seeing his designs before he hit it big. His design for that robot was flat-out ugly, but everything else was great. The animation is great as well, very smooth -- even for something that come out in, what, 1983, '84? Overall, I'll admit I have some good nostalgia of this and maybe I am seeing it through rose-tinted glasses, but it is a good movie and I recommend it. Considering how cheap it is, you really can't go wrong. 8.5 out of 10.
