About this product

Product Information

In the 21st century, genetic engineering makes possible the creation of biologically superior human specimens ("valids"), who then grow to positions of power and prestige. Would-be astronaut Vincent (Ethan Hawke) born the old-fashioned way, can only hope for a janitorial position at the elite Gattaca Corporation--until he buys the blood, urine, and identity of a perfect but paralyzed athlete. But a murder in the company's ranks attracts the attention of a detective who threatens to sniff Vincent out.

  • Gattaca Superbit DVD review -- A Must See!!!

Gattaca is an awesome movie with deeper meaning everywhere you look, including the title -- only the letters a, t, c, and g are used, corresponding with Adenine, Thymine, Cytocine, and Guanine, the chemical components of DNA. Set in the near future with a very 50's retro presence, the cinematography is subtle yet moving with its sterile, sleek atmosphere, familiar yet futuristic objects and especially the use of color -- take notice of overly blue, green, and sepia tones during certain critical scenes. Vincent (Ethan Hawke), an "in-valid," a man conceived naturally in a world where parents genetically engineer their offspring, dreams of going into space but is barred by constant "genoism," discrimination based on one's genetic makeup. To achieve his dreams, he pairs up with Jerome (Jude ...

  • A Modern Caste System

I think Gattaca is a grossly underrated movie! There is a lot of dialogue and may be more cerebral than some prefer. However, genetic customization and the potential societal hurdles it could cause are very well implemented into a story of intolerance, bias, and a non-merit caste system.

  • Disturbingly possible futuristic movie

I bought this movie after only seeing the end of it a few years ago. I have always liked futuristic movies and since Uma Thurman, Ethan Hawke, and Jude Law were in it I was sold. It's set in the future where there are 2 classes of people-valids who are genetically engineered at birth to be "perfect" and invalids who are the natural born population and viewed by the valids as beneath them. Vincent, an invalid, knows his limitations in a world that favors only the valids for esteemed jobs. He assumes the identity of Jerome, a valid, and uses his genetic material to fool everyone at Gattaca, a space agency center to realize his dream of going into space. The movie is great and shows what the human race is slowly but steadily working it's way toward. This DVD is the Superbit version which ...
