A Thumbs-up!
The only nationally charting songs here are The Trashmen's wonderfully goofy "Surfin' Bird" (#4), The Castaways' "Liar, Liar" (#12) and The Gestures' "Run, Run, Run" (#44), but the set contains bands and songs that will be familiar to fans in the midwest who danced to them live or rocked to them on local radio. This entertaining collection will be a boogaloo down memory lane for many. At any rate, it's a high-energy barrel of fun. A fav is Gregory Dee and The Avanties' "The Grind" with its killer-cool 3B organ. Another cut that sets me off is The Titans' "Summer Place." Both the aforementioned, BTW, are instrumentals. The Accents' moody "Why" always catches my ear as does The Shades' juvenile ditty "Summer's Here" (Yes, my sanity will be questioned.) Even with a few too many covers, ...
