  • Decent Performer for the Price

Pentax generally produces good glass and this lens is a reasonable performer. It's certainly not in the same class as the FA 31mm f/1.8 or the DA* f/2.8 16-50. On the other hand, it cost about 60% less than either of those two so it's really good for the price. Stopped down to f/11 it was decently sharp without noticeable fringing. A bit much to hand hold, though; it really wants a tripod (which I did not take along). This lens and the 16-50 were my two main lenses on this trip--while I could hand hold the 16-50 at ISO 100 I had to crank the ISO up to 800 to get a shutter speed that deterred camera shake with this puppy. And I never did get it all the way out to 300: on an APS-C chip that's about 450mm. Still, it's nice to know I could go there if I needed it.

  • Pentax 55-300 mm WR DA lens

Fine for walk around lens, light weight. Image sharpness leaves a little to be desired but easily corrected in post processing. Good value!

  • A good reasonably-priced lens, but not good in low light.

This appears to be a good lens for a reasonable price. It is water resistant and appears to be durable. Images are relatively sharp for a zoom lens. The only con I have so far is that the lens is not very good in low light.

  • Great value for a 55-300 zoom

The Pentax 55-300WR zoom is a great value. For the size and weight it's easy to carry along with other lenses. The lens is weather resistant adding the extra security of not having any moisture enter the camera if it starts to rain. Several on-line reviews rated this lens as being very sharp, the extra long zoom is a great addition to anyone's collection!

  • Great lens for the price.

Liked everything about this lens. Weather sealed, excellent picture quality, extremely accurate autofocus, and great build quality. Manual focus ring rotation was quite rough, however, and accurate manual focus was difficult. So, I returned it for an exchange, and Sammie at Prodigital was right on it.The replacement will be my walk-about outdoor and backpacking lens. About average weight for a lens of this focal range and build quality.
