Works great, at a bargain price
I was drawn to the Magellan RoadMate1212 because many people commented that was less prone to electronic malfunction than many of the newer GPS models. The internal map data base is from 2009, so in a few instances roads may have changed. But my experience has been 100%satisfactory. Even obscure little farm roads show up in perfect detail, and for the entire USA. The screen icons are easy to understand and use. It is different than a Garmen Nuvi but not better
I have a Garmen Nuvi and used it often. My wife said she needed it so I bought the Magellian. It doesn't seem better than the Garmen, just different, some ways better, some ways worse. I like the bell that sounds when you are to turn. It is much better than the Garmen's "Turn right" -- - yeah, where???? The Magellian says the street name which is also good. But the Magellian is a awful lot chattier than the Garmen, sometiems good, sometimes not. I wonder sometimes if the Magellian will be finished talking before I turn. The Magellian is also more difficult to program and it doesn't have a home button like the Garmen which I really liked. If you want dependability and simpleness get a Garmen Nuvi. Great GPS
I've had one of these for quite a few years now & really like it. It's very easy to use & holds a charge for a long time as long as when you turn it off - you hold the button down for at least (10) seconds. Otherwise, it will go into a sleep mode, which is still on & will consume the battery. The only thing I can say negative, and it's probably true of most GPSs, dropping it on concrete is not a good idea. My original had several spills in the car, sometimes falling close to 3', but that was onto a rubber mat covered carpet, and suffered no ill effects. The steps from our garage into the house are concrete & one time the unit slipped out of my hand from less than a foot above the steps & that was all she wrote. Works great but the internal battery needs replacing...I am on the road alot and with my Magellan 1212 I find Food, Lodging, & place to place with or without usage of freeways.. It was sooo great going from Buena park to Van Nuys not even going on a freeway faster than a person on the Freeway trying to Beat Me there......It's Soooo easy to operate Runs on linix quite Effecintly P.S. Very good general purpose GPS
I find this Magellan GPS unit very easy to use. I have one personally and just bought another for a "technology-challenged" friend. I'm sure she will be able to quickly be able to use this GPS. The user interface is very easy - and it will definitely get you where you want to go.
