Product Information

Discover #1 New York Times -bestselling Patrick Rothfuss' epic fantasy universe of The Kingkiller Chronicle, in this illustrated companion novella, The Slow Regard of Silent Things . "I just love the world of Patrick Rothfuss." --Lin-Manuel Miranda - "He's bloody good, this Rothfuss guy." --George R. R. Martin - "Rothfuss has real talent." --Terry Brooks Deep below the University, there is a dark place. Few people know of it: a broken web of ancient passageways and abandoned rooms. A young woman lives there, tucked among the sprawling tunnels of the Underthing, snug in the heart of this forgotten place. Her name is Auri, and she is full of mysteries. The Slow Regard of Silent Things is a brief, bittersweet glimpse of Auri's life, a small adventure all her own. At once joyous and haunting, this story offers a chance to see the world through Aurir's eyes. And it gives the reader a chance to learn things that only Auri knows.... In this book, Patrick Rothfuss brings us into the world of one of The Kingkiller Chronicle's most enigmatic characters. Full of secrets and mysteries, The Slow Regard of Silent Things is the story of a broken girl trying to live in a broken world. Praise for The Kingkiller Chronicle: "The best epic fantasy I read last year.... He's bloody good, this Rothfuss guy." -- George R. R. Martin , New York Times -bestselling author of A Song of Ice and Fire "Rothfuss has real talent, and his tale of Kvothe is deep and intricate and wondrous." -- Terry Brooks , New York Times -bestselling author of Shannara "It is a rare and great pleasure to find a fantasist writing...with true music in the words." -- Ursula K. Le Guin , award-winning author of Earthsea "The characters are real and the magic is true." -- Robin Hobb , New York Times -bestselling author of Assassin's Apprentice "Masterful.... There is a beauty to Pat's writing that defies description." -- Brandon Sanderson , New York Times -bestselling author of Mistborn

Reviews
Praise for Patrick Rothfuss: "As seamless and lyrical as a song... This breathtakingly epic story is heartrending in its intimacy and masterful in its narrative essence." - Publishers Weekly (starred review) "Reminiscent in scope of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series and similar in feel to the narrative tour de force of The Arabian Nights , this masterpiece of storytelling will appeal to lovers of fantasy on a grand scale." - Library Journal (starred review) "It is a rare and great pleasure to find a fantasist writing...with true music in the words.... Wherever Pat Rothfuss goes...he'll carry us with him as a good singer carries us through a song." -Ursula K LeGuin " The Wise Man's Fear is a beautiful book to read. Masterful prose, a sense of cohesion to the storytelling, a wonderful sense of pacing.... There is beauty to Pat's writing that defies description." -Brandon Sanderson "Patrick Rothfuss has real talent, and his tale of Kvothe is deep and intricate and wondrous." -Terry Brooks "[Rothfuss is] the great new fantasy writer we've been waiting for, and this is an astonishing book." -Orson Scott Card "As with all very best books in our field, it's not the fantasy trappings (as wonderful as they are) that make this novel so good, but what the author has to say about true, common things, about ambition and failure, art, love, and loss." -Tad Williams "This is an extremely immersive story set in a flawlessly constructed world and told extremely well." -Jo Walton, Tor.com "It is the best book I have read it years, fantasy or otherwise.... The world is so deep, the stakes are so high, the characters so real, the mysteries so magical, the magic so mysterious, the plot so twisty…every day you haven't read it is a day in your life that could be better." -Hank Green "This fast-moving, vivid, and unpretentious debut roots its coming-of-age fantasy in convincing mythology." - Entertainment Weekly, Praise for The Kingkiller Chronicle " The best epic fantasy I read last year. ... • She washes her hands, her face and her feet, you got 1/4 of the book

There was such a Great Possibility and it left me very unsatisfied. No doubt I was going to buy the next Rothfuss novel, I really should have waited for the novel, it will be out any time now, or 2025 if I understand rightly. Really enjoyed the first two, do yourself a favor and give this a skip.

  • Best Book Ever

If you are reading this and haven't read this book yet, I'm sincerely jealous that you get to go on the journey for the very first time! This is one of the best books ever written in our time, and I think just about anyone who has read it will tell you the same. It's not only a fun, compelling, suspenseful read that you will not be able to put down, it's literature. Rothfuss' motifs about storytelling and narration, performing and music, and of course the wind will fascinate even the snobbiest readers (of whom I would count myself among). This is a work which will be studied and read long, long, long after we are all dead and gone. It's just great, great, great reading, and you should get it in hardback and put it on your top shelf and worship as much as I do! It's pure genius but at the ...

  • Amazing and very different type of book

A friend introduced (and lent me) The Name of the Wind, and The Wise Man's Fear and then told me about this book. He said that it was very different and not everyone is going to enjoy it. I was fascinated by the character Auri when I read the first two books and really looked forward to reading this book too. I borrowed the audio book from the library which is read by the author. I am actually glad that I listened to the book before I read the bound book. Patrick Rothfuss does an amazing job and makes it very clear in his rhythm of speech how damaged and fragile Auri is emotionally. This is a book that will speak to some readers on an emotional level. This was obviously a labor of love to flesh out a minor character in a wonderful series.

  • My favorite of the series

While this was written as a side project, it quickly became my favorite book due to the focus on Auri. I was exceptionally pleased to find a 1st Ed, 1st Printing of this novel. O'm even getting it signed this weekend.
