  • Murmur is....

A lot of things. First, this was a great value and everything is in great shape. The album is not their first. It is one of their best. This is where a movement started. All the anti glam rock, hair rock, pop and bubblegum starts here. Alt rock started with the jangle rock of REM and this is where it was noticed. By Rolling Stone of all people. Not my favorite now but in the day Rolling Stone was insightful. "Radio Free Europe" was named single of the year and it wasn't Michael Jackson. "Talk about the Passion" "Sitting Still" were to follow. The first really big stuff like "End of the World as we Know it" and Fall on me" were following on the next albums. College radio exploded and REM burst out with oddities such a the Cure, Husker Du and the Replacements were to follow. A solid album ...

  • Stands up well.

REM early on, but with one of the hits that defined them. A great album, by a band that stands the test of time.
