One great comedy! And a sequel that takes itself too seriously...
Arthur (1981) is both classic and classy. It's one of the all-time great comedies with some of the funniest moments ever put to film. The story is simple but effective, punched up by sharp, witty dialog. It's got so many laugh-out-loud scenes that its re-watchability is very high. I never get tired of Arthur. The sequel, Arthur 2: On the Rocks, has a few really good one-liners, some genuine laughs here and there and even a couple touching moments. But, overall, the film feels awkward. While watching an adult man-child stumble and bumble his way through day-to-day life was endearing in the first movie, it feels sad and pathetic here. What's worse, that seems to be the movie's intention. The story is about Arthur learning how to be a responsible adult and the filmmakers take this task very ... Very great film... Arthur 2 pretty much sums up the story it's great to have both films within a double feature disc. Always been a fan of this film and it's great that now have it in my collection finally.
