Drawings better for identification than photos

Sibley's and Peterson's guides are both easy to use because of the multiple drawings of the variations of each species of bird (season, maturity, sex, etc.) The guides that only show photos of birds are not nearly as helpful. It also has the written description and image on the same page, which makes this far easier to use than the guides that have the image in one section and the description in another. I purchased this guide because it is required for a bird identification course I am taking and is the professor's preferred guide.

      • Good Book

Probably on of the best soures of bird information and recognition published. Not for field use though. Kind of large and heavy.

      • Title says it all - An Audubon book on birds by David Sibley - can't go wrong with the best.

This is one of the best bird books around. Very informative regarding variations between similar birds, Genus, migration, molt, age, and gender of each bird. Drawings are very precise and well done. An excellent research book for novice or experienced bird lover.
