Excellent sound, but the firmware needs the Apple touch!
The sound quality is quite excellent. If you don't need WiFi, the feature set is excellent. But, if you've used or if you have an Apple TV, you will be deeply disappointed by not just their implementation of ApplePlay, but by Yamaha's internal software, or firmware. It looks like it was written by IBM in their first exit from DOS. They offer a web solution to the unit's lack of any ability to maintain a list of your favorite internet radio stations, so each time you choose to listen to internet radio, you have to search through a litany of stations to find the ones you like, or store your preferences on some website, hoping it is halfway secure. You might as well use the web to listen to internet radio and just use the A720's amp to power your speakers. Internet radio was clearly an ... The sound quality is quite excellent. HDMI leaves something to be desired, not in it's sound quality, picture quality, ease of setup and lack of clutter, but in its ability to turn on and off things. Let me stop and say, if you want a great sounding AV receiver, that can do a fantastic job of upscaling to a 4K TV or upscale DVDs to 1024P, if you have a piece of Sony or other hi-fi equipment out there, and you wonder if there is something that sounds better, looks better or if you don't have equipment that can switch HDMI, stop reading and get yourself a Yamaha (something). preferably Aventage, if you can afford it, and not only will you be happy, but you will need to take humility classed to keep your pride in check. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase, but I hope they hire a few Apple engineers to fix the 1980s feel to their firmware.

After receiving and hooking up the receiver, I didn't think it worked. After reading the unabridged owner's manual, I quickly learned that this is not a plug & play receiver, you have to do a little figuring out plus trial & error to get it where you want, then it becomes very impressive. The sound is great, just like people said. I haven't been able to figure out the internet capability yet only because the television display needs a more modern TV than I have it connected to. It hasn't been a real issue because I use a Roku for Pandora, etc., and video/movie streaming.
