        Scary but true story

I have heard of Edward Snowden from the news years ago. I put off watching the movie as it looked boring. Finally after joining Netflix, I watched the movie. Wow was it good! I realize that some liberty was taken but overall the story was true. It really makes you think about how we have no privacy at all. Especially those of you using Verizon and have laptops. This DVD was very good and in the special features there was an interview with Oliver Stone the director and the two main characters, as well as Snowden himself. The movie lets you see who Snowden the person is in real life and why he released the info he found to the world. I highly recommend it. It will open your eyes...

      • A Film-Class Worthy Drama

I teach a class called Film Appreciation in a couple of college systems, and I am required by one to use films that were released no longer ago than 2 years. This can be extremely difficult, but happily not this time around. Before the drama film I had been using had completely passed that 2 year mark, Snowden came out in theatres and solved my drama genre example problem. It's an excellent film, and it fits the genre parameters to a T.

      • An historic and sobering story

Not an easy movie to make, but not one of Stone's best. Too much sotto voce, too many zany visuals; the key events needed spelling out more clearly. The story, though, is compelling, all the more so for being true. Here's a patriotic and talented young man, eager to contribute his exceptional skills to the protection of his country from "terrorists." He builds software, to intercept their communications. Perhaps he was naive, but I didn't see him pause at that early stage and ask WHY do some people so passionately hate the US - or rather, its government. Had he done so, perhaps the word "terrorist" would have been applied differently. Nonetheless, Snowden realized his work was being adapted to become "a dragnet for the whole world" and watched Clapper "lie to the US Congress" and so ...

      • A must for EVERY Citizen

The depth of this presentation awed me. As an ex govt employee, I've become VERY sensitive to privacy intrusions by corporations and government. The sacrifice and risk taken by Snowden has made him worthy of a Nobel Prize. I had NO idea, for instance, that he suffered from Epilepsy and that the stress of his decision was life-threatening. The corporate news had also written out the love of his life -- a constant and major support of this important whistle-blower. I believe EVERY citizen of the U.S. should spend some time watching this portrayal -- and the special features including the interview with Snowden and the actor portraying him.

      • Extremely Entertaining, and Educating

Snowden, is an extremely entertaining, well pit together film, based on the man, and the circumstance that influenced. Leaves wanting to search more indepth, to Edward Snowden, and question the ethics of how our government operates, without the knowledge of the American people. Certainly has made me look more in depth, and think about whether or not he is trustworthy, or our government is. I look forward to learning more about the man, and the situation that inspired it.
