    • Hiss problems with Tascam DR40 and DR10X, but can work with Rodelink Filmmaker Kit wireless transmitter.

I bought this and first tested it with a DR40 audio recorder I own and the hiss was terrible, unusable. I then bought a DR-10X which is recommended for this mic. The hiss problem is less, but still there. I have to use Audacity software to filter it out. This dynamic mic looks good but has no battery and does not use phantom power, so the audio recorder has to supply all the gain and the DR10X barely does. Maybe I should have bought the old reliable Electro Voice RE50. But I have several Rodelink Filmmaker wireless lav kits and this Reporter mic will work with its transmitter using a Sennheiser XLR to TRS miniplug cable, so it's usable but not as clean as I expected.

    • Great sound but underpowered

This mic sounds really nice. It should make a fine interview mic, but there is one problem people should be aware of. The signal strength is weak, compared with some other dynamic mics. Dynamic mics are always going to have weaker signal strength than condenser mics. But this mic is quite weak in this department. If you have a great preamp - no problem. But, for example, when I use this mic with my zoom h4n pro, I have to turn the recording level up to 100 to get a decent signal - and even then I can't even reach -12 db. I ended up buying a triton fethead inline preamp to boost the signal, and that did the job. But it is a shame that this mic has such weak signal strength.

    • Great deal!

This sounds amazing and cuts down on ambient noise even in an arena with crowd noise and music playing. The form factor is great and the build is SOLID!

    • Better than expected

I got this microphone for interviews and I’m very pleased with the quality. I own a Small Sound Studio and use different microphones. This one is better than Shure sm-58
