    Keys resurrected from the dead

I've had recurrent problems for years with my Roland D70 keyboard. Keys would trigger intermittently or not at all. I've cleaned all 144 carbon contacts (plus the circuit board contact tracings) 3 times (each session takes about 4 hours), only to have the problem recur. The Caikote 44 silver conductive coating on the carbon contacts brought my keyboard back to life. Motivated me to give the synthesizer a cosmetic upgrade (see pics). It did the same thing for a Memorymoog which had only 2 functioning keys. It's very easy to apply. The vial of Caikote 44 is small, but it goes a long way.

  • Stir before use!

The product must be stirred prior to application. It doesn't say that in the instructions so I didn't do it the first try and it failed utterly, my remote did not work at all. The container is so tiny that shaking doesn't work, have to use a toothpick to stir it. Once stirred, the second try worked as claimed. There are applicators in the package, but I used a tiny paint brush with most of the bristles cut away, only perhaps five or six bristles left to paint with. This enabled me to replicate the original detail of the contact area. And yes, the vial is *tiny*, the size of a perfume sample. But it's probably enough to repair dozens of remote buttons, since you use so little of it on each button.

  • Did not work for me

My RCA remote has pads tipped with perhaps a black carbon or ferric based compound. This silver based coating did not fix the pad for the mute button that stopped working. I coated a couple of other often used button pads for good measure. (on/off, volume) They were working before coating and stopped after I coated them. Perhaps it's just incompatible with my remote. The coating did apply easily and dried quickly. I made sure the coatings were completely dry by using a hair dryer. I tested the wet and dried coating with an ohmmeter and it showed good continuity. However, perhaps the remote works on a different principle.

  • Works like magic, and easy to apply.

Repaired fireplace wall switches, restoring "like new" operation. Yearly service diagnosed that the switch needed replacement. Indeed to start the unit buttons had to be pressed several times, wiggled, and with increasing pressure. Manufacturer service would replace for $130. Buying at amazon or eBay brought to between $100 to $95. Reading a review, someone recommended to use this stuff. For around $13 I decided to give it a try. Like magic! The hard part was waiting for it to dry and giving a second cote, which the reviewer recommended. I am not a patient man, so the couple of days I had it sit "to make sure" were trying. I could have probably closed it sooner, but again did not want to have to open the unit again. VOILA! It now works with just a light touch as I am sure it did ...

  • It does work.

Have used this product on five remotes. Had to go back and re-apply coating on two of the remotes. Follow instructions clean, re-clean, scruff surface and apply coating. Dry completely.
