About this product

Product Information

WOLF CREEK is a grim and disturbing horror film, based on actual events in the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE vein. It's also beautifully shot, with director Greg McLean (in his feature film debut) making the otherworldly majesty of Australia's outback emerge as a part of the story. Cassandra Magrath and Kesti Morassi play the two young British girls traveling with their Aussie friend, Ben (Nathan Phillips), to Wolf Creek, the remote location of a giant meteor crater. When their car breaks down, a jovial, Crocodile Dundee-type named John Jarrett (Mick Taylor) offers to tow them to his even more remote auto camp. What happens next ensures, among other things, that surviving audience members will never think of Crocodile Dundee in quite the same happy way again. In addition to McLean's painterly use of scenery in establishing mood, the film benefits from the slow, methodical buildup of character detail; the actors are given space to develop a believable rapport, something all too rare in this kind of film. The characters are people, not stock slasher-film types, and this makes the ensuing scenes of cruelty and violence all the more unbearable. Some viewers may find it all too excessive and disturbing, but there should be no doubt that this is one carefully crafted, genuinely scary horror film, and a promising start for a fresh new filmmaking talent.

    I like it!!

I saw this movie a few years ago and has been searching for it since. Finally got it off Ebay and it's still a thrilling horror flick! I couldn't imagine going through what these people endured. Some say it starts off a bit slow and to an extent I agree, but once the horror kicks in...it KICKS IN!! Picture quality is pretty good on DVD, wish I could have gotten a bluray version.

  • Same old, same old

I purchased Wolf Creek as it was advertised as being not only a scary movie, but also one based on true events. Wolf Creek starts out pretty slowly. It is set in Australia and at times the characters are a slight bit hard to understand due to their thick accents. If I had not read the back of the dvd box, I wouldn't have had a clue as to what was going on. Like I said, the movie starts out slloowwly. Once things get going it only slightly gets better. It has the ususal "screaming, hysterical" female, the "calm, smart" female, and "a guy". Aside from a few moments of "I've not seen that before" situations.......it was your average "horror" movie. And don't get me started about the ending......."unresolved" and "many unanswered questions" come to mind. Top all of this with the fact ...

  • If you hated Hostel, you will hate this one too!

We are huge fans of Horror Films, so we bought this movie at the same time as we bought Hostel. I must say I was equally disappointed with both of them. Wolf Creek starts off REALLY slow just as Hostel does, but at least it's a storyline about 3 friends who go on a roadtrip and not some bad soft porn show. I enjoyed this one a tiny bit more only for the fact that "IF" you make it to the end of the film it does actually have a "scariness" about it, (in a very small dose though), and not just a Bloody, Gore fest like Hostel is. Neither movie was anything close to what I call a "scarey" movie. They just don't seem to know how to make em' scarey anymore. If you are thinking of adding this to your Horror collection, my advice would be to rent it ...

  • Last of the pack but runs well with it.

2 jerks said this review was not helpful because I compared it with Hills have eyes and did not give credit to the orig 'hills have eyes' of 20 years ago. GIVE ME A BREAK! Get a life. OK, with that past us, here's my take on THE FOLLOWING movie A great horror flick is hard to write, so I have been lenient on them. With that said, OK, joining the family of movies with folks getting lost only to find gruesome fates, England jumps in with 'Wolf Creek'. If your interested I did the research for the following... Wolf Creek = 2005 England Wrong Turn = 2003 Canada Hills Have Eyes = 2006 U.S. Detour = 2003 Australia. Four countries have their own versions of this plot. By date (see above) you can tell who copied who first. It seems that Wolf Creek at the end 'hints' at ...

  • Wolf Creek (2006)

Just when you thought it was safe to go hiking in the bushes again...along comes Mick Taylor. Kristy, Ben and Liz are three pals in their twenties who set out to hike through the scenic Wolf Creek National Park in the Australian Outback. The trouble begins when they get back only to find that their car won't start. The trio think they have a way out when they run into a local bushman named Mick Taylor. Wait until you get a load of what Mick has in store for them. Their troubles have just begun. In 1999, Ben Mitchell (Nathan Phillips) and his two British girlfriends Liz Hunter (Cassandra Magrath) and Kristy Earl (Kestie Morassi) buy an old car to travel through the outback of Australia with little money. Their first stop is to visit a meteor crater in the isolated Wolf Creek National Park. ...
