    Well constructed. Quality materials. Excellent dampening.

    This is a much better and perhaps better constructed shock mount than what might be standard. Great materials and it looks nice. However, the circular part of the frame that surrounds the microphone is too close to the dampening part of it. Those two pieces of metal bounce off of one another if you move the microphone in the mount even slightly. It’s a bit of a design issue, but perhaps if you bent the straight part of the dampening frame, the circular piece around the microphone toward the front and the straight piece of the other frame won’t bounce off of one another. I don’t think that it is a problem that would take too much of a fix by the designer. Better that than to have a user try to bend things to keep them from hitting against each other.

    Nicely made -- but fails because it doesn't support the weight of an RE20

    Solid design but unhappily it fails to hold the microphone acceptably. When installed, the microphones this is listed for (EV RE20 ,320, and 27N/D) causes the inner basket to sag and contact the outer frame. The elastic bands aren't up to the task. Since these are end-address mics the mic has to be somewhat horizontal so this lack of support is a problem. The basket is centered without the mic, but once the mic is installed the metal parts touch. Adorama could not provide any replacement bands but offered a refund if I returned it. They wouldn't replace this one. I'd have to buy another (at a considerably higher price). I have to wonder if the reason it sold for the price it did was because there was a known problem.     Alternative to the EV model

    Still a tad pricey, but at least it's not a hundred bucks! Build quality at least as robust as the 309A if not better. The EV model used brass in the mount screw which would wear poorly. The bands are close enough to use the aftermarket ones from Better Bands. So far working, but will see how it fares long term.
