Conspiracy Theory DVD
Out of all the Mel Gibson-Richard Donner films, outside the Lethal Weapon movies, Conspiracy Theory is my favorite. Jerry Fletcher is Mel Gibson’s best performance because unlike Martin Riggs, Jerry is a little OCD and paranoid about stuff, and he uses his intelligence and wits to get out of situations without using any weapons. Not only that, the film is a hybrid of genres: Action, Comedy, Drama, Psychological Thriller, Political Thriller, Romance, but if I had to pick the main genre for this movie, it would be a romantic comedy with action and thriller undertones.Out of all the Mel Gibson-Richard Donner films, outside the Lethal Weapon movies, Conspiracy Theory is my favorite. A great 90s quirky thriller that checks out on so many levels. Worth a revisit for anyone who understands state craft or wants to take a peek into what makes some conspiracy folks tick. Gibson shines at the peak of his on screen powers.

Conspiracy Theory (1997, DVD)
It's hard to believe that a film starring both Mel Gibson and Patrick Stewart could have no redeeming qualities whatsoever, but Conspiracy Theory comes mighty close. Gibson stars as Jerry Fletcher, a New York cabbie who's obsessed with trendy conspiracy theories to the exclusion of all other things, but when his incessant snooping draws the ire of a mysterious government agent (Stewart), Jerry turns to Federal attorney Alice Sutton (Julia Roberts) in the hopes that she can protect him. Gibson, who may be a fine actor in most things, is completely miscast here, and he fails to be convincing as a hyperactive, paranoid washout. A bit of prophetic fantasy with deep state, MK Ultra-Operation Paperclip underpinnings. The more you know the more fun this movie is.
