The thermometer works, but...
Ok, in my experience with cooking, especially oil cooking, is a glass thermometer that clips onto the edge of the pan is a must. Having said that, I have also found that the most annoying feature of one of these thermometers is some come with a stupid plastic cap on the back end that is supposed to seal the thermometer, but when gets hot, turns soft, falls off, and oil makes its way inside, rendering it useless. This thermometer does NOT have this feature, as it is completely encased in glass. So what else about it is good or bad? Well, it seems that the second most annoying feature of a glass thermometer is a poor quality metal clip that does not spring back in place, and bends, so the thermometer can fall into your oil. Echoing the previous review, the first time I used this thermometer I was making french fries. I clipped the thermometer to the side of the pan and heated the oil. When I went to remove the thermometer it fell backward out of the pan. That is when I realized that the clip was so cheap there was no way that it could perform the duty it was supposed to perform. No clip makes the thermometer worthless to me. It was a total waste of money and time. Our old thermometer belonged to my wife's grandma and lasted many decades before I accidentally broke it.
