An Angel For May (DVD, 2006)
This is a clever story about a young English boy named Tom, who somehow, during a storm takes refuge in the ruins of an old farm house fire hearth. He suddenly is transported back to 1942 wartime England. He meets a young girl named May who is orphaned by the war. She is traumatized and friendless. She lives at a farm with a kind man, and his housekeeper. May takes to Tom and through his friendship opens up. Tom finds his way back through the time portal and when he gets home, his mother doesn't believe him. He searches for the way back to May, but hasn't figured out the revelance of the storm. He eventually goes back. The war is all around, and bombs are falling. He tries to get May to return with him, but she won't. While trying to return to the present time, Tom is injured and can't get ... Heartfelt fantasy adventure
I bought this copy for a friend, and she loved it. She said it was indeed the full-length version -- that is 100 minutes (1 hr. 40 minutes). [Some versions are missing one scene; approximately one minute, but I like to have the full versions of what I see]. I saw it years ago, and found it to be a very good fantasy adventure that I really enjoyed. I loved "traveling" with Tom, the main character, back to World War II Britain, where he meets the childhood version of May, an old woman he knows in present time. Tom Wilkinson is very good, as usual, as a friendly farmer who rescues Tom. Matthew Beard plays Tom, and Anna Massey plays the older May.
