About this product

Product Information

Andy Stitzer (Steve Carell) rides his bike to his stockperson job at Smart Tech, has a nice apartment filled with collectable toys (in their original packages), and plays videogames every night before bed. He's also a 40-year-old virgin. During a poker game with his coworkers David (Paul Rudd), Jay (Romany Malco), and Cal (Seth Rogen), talk turns to sex and it becomes very clear that Andy doesn't know what he's talking about. His friends become intent on remedying his situation, and their advice leads to newfound confidence for naïve Andy. But when he develops true feelings for single mother Trish (Catherine Keener), Andy finds that all the sex advice in the world won't help him navigate the choppy waters of an adult relationship. In Andy, Carrell has found a perfect comic creation who is hilarious, lovable, and rooted in reality. Rudd, Malco, and Rogen are also perfectly cast as Andy's cheerleaders. The script, by Carrell and first-time director Judd Apatow (producer of TV's FREAKS AND GEEKS), is consistently funny, and--despite its relentless crudity--treats its nerdy protagonist with the utmost respect. This rare quality and its high laugh-to-joke ratio make VIRGIN one of the most enjoyable comedies of the decade.

  • A rather raunchy, but unique storyline :)

In my opinion, this unique movie is a hit- especially if you like the acting style of Steve Carrell (sarcastic and stupidly funny) AND can get around the fact that the storyline contains MANY references to and graphic descriptions of sex that are sometimes quite crude. If you can't see the humor in this sort of thing- or at least get past it-- you definitely will NOT like this movie. Andy (Carrell) is a socially awkward 40 year old who has never "done the deed." He makes the horrible mistake of revealing his "secret" to his buddies from work during a poker game and his life is forever changed... His buddies vow to help him end his virginity and begin giving him a bunch of LOUSY advice about women, which of course he follows. They also have a lot of fun at Andy's expense, poking fun of his ...

  • This movie is embarrassingly funny!

The 40-year-old Virgin is an absolutely hilarious movie about a man, who at 40 is still a virgin, and knows very little about women, his friends at the electronics store attempt help him lose his virginity, while he is falling in love with a women he meets, and doesn't know how to tell about his 'situation.' This movie is very entertaining because Steve Carell has the ability to embarass himself and make you laugh and feel embarassed for him. Very entertaining!!!

  • Hilarious from Beginning to End

Steve Carell begins his career as protagonist on this movie. Well titled "The 40-year-old Virgin" tells the story of a single man in his 40's that never had sex with women. ever. The movie treated well the assumptions and misconceptions of what people believe what really means virginity. Specially from the male perspective. The movie will give you lots of laughs and great moments that keep your breath out... but from too much laughing. Highly recommended.

  • crazy funny

If you into adult humor this is where it began. I would say this falls in the category with Superbad and Knocked Up. I think they were all written by jude apatow who also did the short running series Freaks and Geeks. Very funny if you can thke this kind of humor. I wasn't super impressed with the quality of the HD transfer but it still looked better than regular DVD.

  • Hang with this movie through the first 20 minutes, and it is a blast after.

The very first time I watched this movie, it was okay, but I really didn't think it was one of his best. The second time I watched it, I picked up on a lot of the humorous things I had missed the first time, and laughed a lot more at the movie. It continued to grow on me, and I have seen it probably thirteen or more times now. Well worth buying. Mo Todd
