    I looked long and hard for this design.

    The rim that contacts the plastic adds stability to the connection on my HT. This one appears to be unique and I searched for one that had this same advantage as the rubber duckie that came with my Yaesu. Without this added contact the SMA connector just seems exposed and fragile.
