  • Might have given readers more reason to read it if Pittsburgh was mentioned!

Since I grew up just outside Pittsburgh during the same years that Annie Dillard grew up, I loved remembering many of the same experiences that she shared. Loved the uniqueness of the language used in this area. Loved the book!! Wish my copy had the cover that is pictured. I remember the Pittsburgh area with great fondness and great memories!

  • Thoroughly enjoyable.

I bought the book as I am a Pittsburgher as is the author. Fascinating account of a lively, bright girl growing up in a well-to -do home in Western Pa. Writing is just beautiful.

great book i really loved it. she has a great way of writting.

  • An American Childhood

I'm having a hard time finishing it. I thought since I grew up in Pittsburgh during the same era, I would connect with this book. I find it somewhat boring.
