Great little machine, IPaq h3955
Bought an ipaq to experiment with data gathering on my job. The idea of being able to enter data directly into MS excel and upload it to my desktop for monitoring was going to make my life easier. I never expected how much I would enjoy the unit off the job as well. My wife liked it so much that she had me pick her up a PDA as well. I found a rx2115 ipaq for her and she loves it. The 3955 is a rugged little unit. It may not have the most current version of windows CE, but it runs about 80% of the software I have tried to use on it. The unit is larger than the newer ipaqs, and fits my hands better when being used for long periods. The screen is also larger than the newer ones, and that makes it a lot easier to read. If you download the sdio upgrade, you can add a 2 gb sd card to the ... Bought an ipaq to experiment with data gathering on my job. PPC2002 = Average, PPC2003 = Excellent! It's all good.
I've only owned one PDA before this one and that was the Palm M105. It was nice but unfortunately I was plagued like many others by the dead internal battery. So I finally decided that an upgrade was in order. Although, I guess since the 3900 series came out in about 2002, it isn't really much of an upgrade. But compared to the m105 it is like stepping 100 years into the future. Unfortunately it took a few weeks of messing with it to get it exactly where I wanted. So listen up people. If your interested in this Ipaq your going to need to know a few very important details first. 1. Does it have PPC 2002 or 2003 on it? Oh this was the biggest issue of all. I have a laptop running Vista and a desktop running XP Media Center. If this Ipaq has PPC 2002 on it then forget syncing it with Vista. ... I've only owned one PDA before this one and that was the Palm M105. It was nice but unfortunately I was plagued like many others by the dead internal battery. It actually destroyed the ROM on my Ipaq (I'll cover this further in number 2). XP syncs with 2002 just fine. Now, if your really hell bent on using Vista do what I did and upgrade your Ipaq to PPC 2003, they love each other. 2. If something happens with the ROM on this Ipaq (usually stuck on a screen with Serial or USB at the top and v0.48 at the bottom) you can only fix the ROM by connecting the Ipaq to a computer running XP, 2000, ME, etc. Vista will not fix this problem. This is because Vista requires sycing to do anything with the Ipaq while the other versions of Windows can still access the Ipaq with syncing disabled. I recommend going to HP's site and getting the 1.1 version of ROM from them. This is only if your sticking to PPC 2002. If you have 2003 then just use the disk you should have gotten when you ordered it which has ROM version 3. 3. Last but not least if you are staying with 2002 and you download a program and get an error message on install that says your setup file is invalid, I'm sorry but the only way around this is to upgrade to 2003. There are only a handful of places that include a work around and usually it doesn't work. So either upgrade or forget about that program. I recommend: - PPC 2003 (obviously) - Extended battery - Fellowes Aluminum Case - Zip-Linq Retractable recharge/sync cable I got the 2250 mah battery. My Ipaq is sitting here next to me and has been on for 2 hours. I played a few card games and ran a diet and fitness program that I'm addicted to and the battery has 97% left. As for the rest. It has a beautiful screen and it feels great in my hand so it's not to big or too small. One of the reasons why I got this model is because I think the newer ones are too small. There are a ton of apps out there for it from games to accounting to health related. You won't be disappointed with the selection. I have a series of SD cards that I swap in and out of it. One is for MP3s, one is for ebooks, and the last is for videos. They all work wonderfully. While I'm on the subject of MP3s. I downloaded a play list manager called PlaylistMgr v0.7.3 and I recommend everyone else do the same. Just remember to move the CAB file onto your Ipaq and then just tap in on your Ipaq. Only takes a second to install. I think that about covers it. So for PPC 2002 I give this an average rating. For 2003 it is excellent. Since I did the upgrade I have not had one issue. I'm in love with this Ipaq.

IPAQ H3955 Still has life and lots of fun in it.
Well It needed new battery. As some of you know on Ebay Lithium battery life is about 3 years. This is if you use the battery or not . I also got battery from ebay. Very easy to install. Item works great. The next thing I had to do was upgrade from PC2002 to PC2003. Again very easy to do. With a old Wifi PCMCIA card I had Orinco Gold. I had it wireless. There is a lot of software that is on the next for this device. I can use it for about 8 hrs before I have to recharge it. It Like to watch portable movies on it with windows media player ver 9. I can also use it for email on it. and it comes with Microsoft Office on it. I bought the iPAQ used, and found it to be well worth the purchase price. I have had other PDA's but this one is a bit easier to use, and currently fits my needs for size, features and utility. It seems to be fairly rugged, and the battery life is good, easily over 2 hrs..( I havent run it past that yet.)I am satisfied with its performance, but wished it came with Wifi.. Maybe the next purchase will fulfill that wish. Overall it was a good purchase, and I'm glad to have it.I bought the iPAQ used, and found it to be well worth the purchase price. I love this device! I have no idea why PDA's seem to be going "out of style." I have noticed that stores such as Circuit City have stopped carrying them! That is why I turned to Ebay. I think it is great. I am a teacher, and use MS Word, Exell and expecially Powerpoint. It really does integrate with just about anything, and easily. Then I discovered that it is a suburb MP3 player. Who needs an expensive iPOD? This does all that an iPOD does and much, much more. The sound from the speakers is NOT impressive, but the sound from headphones is awesome. I can attach external speakers, so that can be overcome. I also love the transcriber. It is so nice to be able to WRITE and not have to take the time to type on that little bitty keyboard!
