About this product

Product Information

Longtime rivals Magneto and Professor Xavier have joined together to fight a common enemy in X-Men: Next Dimension. An army of Prime-Sentinels, led by Bastion, has captured Forge and plans on using his coerced information to destroy all mutants. Players will be able to choose from 24 X-Men characters, some making their video game debut, as they punch and kick their way past the Sentinels to free their comrade. Each of the 21 environments has been designed with multiple tiers, allowing players to continue fights into new areas by throwing opponents through windows, off buildings, and more.<br><br>Sixteen characters are initially playable in five game modes: Story, Arcade, Survival, Team, and Versus. Representing the villains are Magneto, Sabretooth, Mystique, Toad, and Juggernaut. Heroes include Wolverine, Storm, Cyclops, Phoenix, Gambit, Beast, Psylocke, Forge, Nightcrawler, Rogue, and Havoc. An additional eight characters are waiting to be unlocked by satisfying certain conditions during play. Story Mode follows a specific narrative depending on which character is selected when starting the game. Versus lets two friends battle it out on any of the available stages, while Survival has players trying to outlast their opponents for as long as possible. Team has players assembling a squad of eight mutants and then battling another group of equal size. <br><br>Each character has a variety of attacks based on their mutant powers. Storm, for example, can call forth lightning strikes, while Cyclops zaps foes with his optic blast. As players string together punches, kicks, and projectiles, a meter will fill up that allows them to unleash powerful combos up to 20 hits in length. Battles can also take place high in the air or low to the ground as players try to reduce their opponent's health to zero. Certain attacks trigger slow-motion effects for dramatic flair, and players will be able to perform recoveries and counters to keep opponents on their toes (or claws in some cases). In addition to the eight hidden characters, a number of alternate costumes can be unlocked during the course of play.

    Still excellent

Bought this for ps2 back in 2002, and later got the Xbox version too. Now have it for Gamecube and that version plays great too. Graphics are somewhat blurry by todays standards but gameplay is still good. Best version of all superhero games released, imo, at least for head to head Tekken style fighting.

  • X-Men meets Street Fighter

I'm not normally a fan of fighting games in general because I usually feel like unless you invest a lot of time learning a long string of combos, you're basically just in for a butt-kicking everytime you play. And that's kind of how I feel about this game. I love the X-Men and being able to fight with such a diverse group of characters with a variety of different powers and moves is cool. But once the novelty of sparring mano-a-mano with everyone's favorite mutants wears off, I found the game controls to be too complicated to keep the game fun. Additionally, the camera will sometimes get stuck so you can't see the screen and other times an opponent will actually get stuck inside a wall. Having played this game on both Xbox and Gamecube, I can also say the Gamecube version has subpar ...

  • Street Fighter Meets The X-Men...Sort Of...

This game's lay out is pretty basic: it's a 3D sort of version of games like Street Fight and Mortal Kombat, but as the X-Men characters. I say 3D sort because even you you'll only see the profiles of the characters in combat, you can go up and down and explore the different battlegrounds you'll be fighting in. The game is pretty good, a standard fighting game: melee attacks and mutant powers, use them to drain your opponents energy and progress to the next opponent. There's a basic story involved to keep you fighting and to keep some sort of plot tied into it. You'll be able to pick from numerous characters and the more you play, the more you can unlock and you can get alternate costumes for them too. The fighting is pretty good - you can use a variety of punching, kicking, throws, but ...

  • great 3D fighter with the Xmen

XMEN: Next Dimension is a 3D fighting game direct sequel to the Xmen: Mutant Academy games on Playstation. The game is similar to Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat games. The stages on which the game takes place are a lot to explore and are now in 3D. The Gamecube version is better than the Xbox version because the balance is improved. The Gamecube version with Time attack mode and Team mode doesn't rely on the surival mode as much as the Xbox version does. (I recommend the Gamecube version.) With a total of more than 20 different characters to play, both the Xmen and some villains too, the game is not too repetitive. However, be wary of the actual combat moves because the moves of play can become repetitive, which is a drawback.

  • Fun game

Had to have it for my Psylocke collection.
