About this product

Product Information

From the world's #1 bestselling crime writer comes the extraordinary new Kay Scarpetta novel. It is the week before Christmas. A tanking economy has prompted Dr. Kay Scarpetta-despite her busy schedule and her continuing work as the senior forensic analyst for CNN- to offer her services pro bono to New York City's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. In no time at all, her increased visibility seems to precipitate a string of unexpected and unsettling events. She is asked live on the air about the sensational case of Hannah Starr, who has vanished and is presumed dead. Moments later during the same telecast, she receives a startling call-in from a former psychiatric patient of Benton Wesley's. When she returns after the show to the apartment where she and Benton live, she finds an ominous package-possibly a bomb-waiting for her at the front desk. Soon the apparent threat on Scarpetta's life finds her embroiled in a surreal plot that includes a famous actor accused of an unthinkable sex crime and the disappearance of a beautiful millionairess with whom Lucy seems to have shared a secret past. Scarpetta's CNN producer wants her to launch a TV show called The Scarpetta Factor . Given the bizarre events already in play, she fears that her growing fame will generate the illusion that she has a "special factor," a mythical ability to solve all her cases. She wonders if she will end up like other TV personalities: her own stereotype. The Scarpetta Factor , the seventeenth in the series, finds the familiar cast of characters together again in New York. Marino is working for the NYPD; Benton Wesley uses his forensic psychological expertise at Kirby and Bellevue; and Lucy continues to dazzle with her expertise in forensic computer investigations as she works yet another case with NY prosecutor Jaime Berger. Love PC!

I have not read The Scarpetta Factor yet - I purchased all of the books in the Scarpetta series and, even though I've read some of the latest books, started with the first and am working my way down. I enjoy these books very much and recommend them highly. I've never purchased a complete series of books until these - I know I'll enjoy these for many years to come.

  • Patricia Cornwell delivers again!

Patricia Cornwell again takes us into the world of Kay Scarpetta, and gives us another exciting read. We know the characters by name, but each book tells us a bit more about our old friends, as their lives change and grow. They are all here, Marino, Benton, Lucy, and Kay, ready to do whatever it takes to find answers. Dr. Scarpetta continues to evolve and find new ways to share her expertise, this time as an analyst for CNN. But being in the public eye attracts more than a fair share of unwanted attention, danger and life threatening situations. Cornwell again shows her incredible talent to combine the world of forensics that she knows intimately, with a cast of characters that she continues to breath life into, and give us another chapter in their lives. It is hard to put down, and you ...

  • The Cornwell Factor

I bought the book because I've read all in the Scarpetta Series and the synopsis intrigued me. I thought this book, while keeping true to the characters, was able to bring fresh interest in the characters' lives and background. I also felt that while I've liked the character of Kay Scarpetta, this book seemed to flesh out the imperfections in this woman that makes her more human and takes nothing away from her professionalism and skill. The problem I have with the book, is it is over *smile* and I have to wait for another.

  • The Scarpetta Factor by Patricia Cornwell

If you are familiar with all of the players in this book, it is easy to understand. If not, you will be lost and have to continue reading the words to the end. I have all of the Patricia Cornwell book series and this one was a bit over the top for me. It did not bite me in the first chapter as most of her books do, but I finished it and hope that the next Scarpetta book goes back to the early days, more intrique and mystery.

  • Excellent author

Interesting, exciting, etc. can be enjoyed as a stand-alone, or a continued series story.
