The injuries, he says, were sustained in the course of a murder . . . that he did not commit. Is Bane a criminally insane stalker who has fixed on Scarpetta? Or is his paranoid tale true, and it is he who is being spied on, followed and stalked by the actual killer? The one thing Scarpetta knows for certain is that a woman has been tortured and murderedaand more violent deaths will follow. Gradually, an inexplicable and horrifying truth emerges: Whoever is committing the crimes knows where his prey is at all times. Is it a person, a government? • Interactive reading. The Doc goes East Coast

In this latest novel from Patricia Cornwell, Doctor Scarpetta accepts an assignment from the NYPD. Is this just an interview with a criminally insane stalker or it there some truth to his rantings. If so how far do the reach who is involve. Cornwell takes you through twists and turns, take notice of clues in the changing format. This is an excellent Christmas gift. Patricia Cornwell’s most recent bestsellers include Book of the Dead, The Front, and Portrait of a Killer: Jack the Ripper—Case Closed. Dr. Kay Scarpetta herself won the 1999 Sherlock Award for the best detective created by an American author.

  • For a writer who used to be so good..she sure sucks now

Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta series used to be one of the best out there but it has become nothing more than a joke. The first 5 or 6 books in the series were fantastic reading. Great writing, tight plots, great characters. But somewhere along the line after that Cornwell forgot how to write. This book is a joke compared to her earlier writing. I hadn't read a book in this series since BLOW FLY, a book that just pissed me off. A friend gave me this so I thought I'd give it a shot. It's nice to know that I've apparently missed nothing and saved some money along the way by NOT buying this authors books!

  • Scarpetta

As always with this series of Patricia Cornwell books it is a very good read. I couldn't hardly put the book down. Filled with a lot of guessing about who was the villian for sure. I read about 15 to 20 books a month so I of course I have my favorite authors and this author is second on my list.

  • Scarpetta is back

It was slow moving in the beginning and took me awhile to get into, this book was actually a disappointment for me in the realm of Cornwell's other novels featuring this character. The background was still as lively, but the suspense wasn't there and it was predictable. A huge disappointment for me, but nevertheless, a good read.
