About this product

Product Information

Digitize your entire collection of film by using the Nikon CoolScan V, an ED scanner capable of transferring your physical film and slide formats into the digital world at 4000 dpi. The unit manages clear color representation as it is able to recreate 4 trillion colors from the scans. Using a set of enhancement and correction techniques, this product is able to remove scratches and dust from the equation automatically while the dynamic data exchange function performs exposure compensation that results in vivid colors despite scanning washed out slides. A fast USB 2.0 port ensures that the digitized versions of your analog film zips right into your computer, and is a feature you will need because the high-resolution output can get up to 110 MB. Rely on this scanner if you have a large batch of film and slides that you want to turn into precise and high resolution digital files for easy sharing.

Nikon CoolScan V ED LS50 worth serious consideration

The most important feature of this scanner is the Digital ICE implementation. The combination of the infrared LED scanning and dust removal really works. This saves much post-processing time. However, the scanner is NOT a speed demon! If you are looking for faster scans and more efficiency, a different model with the batch adaptor would be better. The 4000dpi scans are very impressive (I have not tried lower resolutions yet) but of course large (up to 60mb)(TIF). The scanner is solidly built. I am using it with VueScan. Color accuracy is reasonable, but of course depends on film type and condition. Many of my slides are old and faded. I had high expectations due to the reputation of these scanners, and they have been exceeded! Loses one star for slow speed. Highly recommended.

  • Outstanding Film/Slide Scanner - Outstanding Value!

The Nikon Coolscan V is a film scanner capable of extracting all of the image quality present in your 35mm negatives and slides. At under $1000 including film and slide adapters, it's a truly outstanding value. ...Really can't be matched. It can easily be installed on any laptop or desktop PC under any 32-bit or 64-bit edition of Windows including Windows 10, and can be operated with Nikon Scan 4, VueScan, or SilverFast software. My personal preference is Nikon Scan 4.

  • Great Scanner at a Great Price

This budget scanner has now been discontinued by Nikon. But, I don't believe it was due to the quality and capabilities of the device. The only Nikon slide and film scanner you can buy is in the thousands of dollars. I bought this new in 2008 for $600 and it has exceeded my expectations ever since. I have been able to convert slide and negative into brilliant, sharp digital images rivaling the quality of a digital SLR. I highly recommend this scanner to anyone who wants to control the process themselves as opposed to sending off your slides to a processing house. And, if you have a lot of images, using this scanner will save you lots of money.

  • Nice film scanner

I bought this scanner new and simply wasn't impressed using Nikon's now obsolete software. Speed was abysmal. However, this is an outstanding scanner for both slides and print film when used with VueScan software. Quality, speed and ability to adjust output all top notch. Great combination of hardware you have to buy used and current, supported, software.

  • Worth The Price.

I bought this scanner because it is a top of the line 35mm film scanner. It is perfect for scanning large quantities of slides or film, and costs less than other Nikon scanners. I had used this scanner previously, and knew that I had to have one, but, this was after Nikon halted production of the Coolscan V ED. Ebay was the only option. Even though the Coolscan V ED auctions for more than it originally sold for, they are worth the price.
