Works great once you figure it out and how to use it correctly. You do not need iTunes. Windows media player works great for me.Best to record with the "Record in tracks" box unchecked and the "Gain control" all the way up. There are no directions to tell you how to use it, and I spent a whole day "Trial and error" and finally figured it out!! You almost need a "Ion book for dummies" at least I did.Works great once you figure it out and how to use it correctly. You do not need iTunes. Another cassette tape to digital converter dud
The player has a very loud hum when recording. I'm able to use Audacity's Noise Reduction filters to reduce the hum. Two times using it takes out almost all of the hum. At least it's listenable. Any more Noise Reduction and the recording would be rendered unlistenable. Basically, the same problem as the other two player/converters I have used over the years. I got Ion's because I've had good success with their record player converter and also because this one looked different than all the others for sale, which all look exactly alike, making me think they're all made by the same company, and this one too, apparently, as it has the same hum problem. I'm beginning to think it's impossible to find a good cassette converter to digital player. I gave it two stars instead of one because, through ... The player has a very loud hum when recording. I guess you get what you pay for...the price was reasonable, perhaps too much so. When I first attempted to play a tape nothing happened. I could hear the motor running but tape would not run. After removing the back cover (probably voided the warranty) I discovered that the drive belt was not seated correctly...easy fix but is an indication of poor quality control. Once fixed I discovered that the mechanical workings of the tape player are extremely noisy. When playing a tape you can hear the player running. Overall I would not recommend this item to others. This stated, there are very few comparable options in the market to choose from that are at the same price point.I guess you get what you pay for...the price was reasonable, perhaps too much so. The sound quality is better than I expected. A good player for beginners that are converting their tapes to digital. The CDs sound great coming from such a compact tape player.

It works!
I converted one tape so far using Audacity as the audio recording software. I could not listen to the tape as I was transfering it to Audacity (I suppose I could have plugged in the headphones to the ION but I didn't try that). Although I have not yet used it extensively it works as advertised.
