Updated to commemorate its 20th anniversary, this classic resource further explores the effects of grief and sheds new light on how to begin to take effective actions to complete the grieving process and work towards recovery and happiness. Incomplete recovery from grief can have a lifelong negative effect on the capacity for happiness. Drawing from their own histories as well as from others', the authors illustrate how it is possible to recover from grief and regain energy and spontaneity. Based on a proven program, The Grief Recovery Handbook offers grievers the specific actions needed to move beyond loss. New material in this edition includes guidance for dealing with: · Loss of faith · Loss of career and financial issues · Loss of health · Growing up in an alcoholic or dysfunctional home The Grief Recovery Handbook is a groundbreaking, classic handbook that everyone should have in their library. "This book is required for all my classes. The more I use this book, the more I believe that unresolved grief is the major underlying issue in most people's lives. It is the only work of its kind that I know of that outlines the problem and provides the solution."--Bernard McGrane, Ph.D., Professor of Sociology, Chapman University

Very happy with customer service, packing and shipping. Book has more markups than described in info tho, sometimes several lines that take up almost half the page, which is a bit sad. However, considering the price that’s quite fair so I’m happy!

  • A Plan to Remedy Grief from Any of Life's Losses

A friend, whose wife had died from cancer, recommended this book to me after my father died. The book, however, is not limited to the grief associated with death but extends to all of life's losses, such as major changes in any relationship or status that was meaningful (divorce, marriage, graduation, etc.). The book clearly outlines the culturally propagated ideas we "know" regarding how to handle loss, and shows how most of them teach us to not really address or experience our grief, with the consequence that we never really heal. The authors provide a series of exercises aimed at identifying our short-term coping strategies and major moments of stress (through loss and gain) so that an unresolved emotional relationship may be "completed." The authors (strongly) encourage working with a ...

  • The Grief Recovery Handbook

I gave a copy of this book to my sister who just lost her husband of 30 years. I did not read it myself, but she told me how good it was and that it has really helped her in dealing with grief. She said it was so important that she will read it again to follow all the suggestions given. The author V.S. Naipaul in his book A Bend in the River wrote, "It isn't easy to turn your back on the past. It isn't something you can decide to do just like that. It is something you have to arm yourself for, or grief will ambush and destroy you." This book may be what is needed to help one who is facing the struggle and release of grief.

  • Outstanding Book

Still in the process of reading but the information I have taken from this book can help anyone seeking the means or ways to help them recover can use it. The author was right on point and if a person is open to accept what has been put on paper in this book he or she can benefit from it. Thanks to the seller for having exactly what I was seeking, in a recovery book.

  • So helpful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111

My family has used this book for death and divorce. If one truly wants to continue to live life after tragedy or any loss (even the death of a beloved pet), this book gives one the blueprint to use for that process. It is simple to use and allows one to move forward without that horrible burden of sadness. The key is that you must want to. After my husbands death, I tried to do it myself and was about 50% when I hit a brick wall and couldn't progress any further. A friend recommended this book and it was like a miracle. I completed the process and immediately was capable of moving forward. I have shared it with friends and family and this particular copy my Son asked me to get so he could give it to a friend who was 'stuck' due to a divorce. I highly recommend it.

  • Helped me as grieve.
