    A must-have for any Lightfoot fan or new listener just discovering his music & words.

    Gordon Lightfoot is a true singer-songwriter legend. He has had a prolific career, writing pure poetry, which are lyrics set to music he composes. He is known as a perfectionist & it shows in all he does. This 4 CD compilation covers highlights of his career from the 1960s onward. A bonus is the small booklet that is included in which Lightfoot explains what inspired him to write each song featured in the set. I cannot recommend this more highly.

    The Essential Gordon lightfoot

    I like that this has almost every great song Gordon has ever sung and that it has some that we have never heard before. Quality is great as usual with his recordings. I wanted to hear the songs that I never heard before that Gordon had in his home archives, and though some of them are not up to his best writings, some are noticable as excellent tunes. No artist has all hits, and this just proves Gordon knew what to record and what to leave out back in the old days. 18 songs never released before, makes it worth listening to.

    Lightfoot's Best

    I so rarely buy CDs anymore but since we will be seeing Lightfoot this month in Portland wanted to refresh my collection. I have been a fan for 35 years since college where I saw him at San Jose State...great then.... great NOW. ALso this will be my 5th concert to visit this rare song-master. This is a superior collection of his immense works. A lot of the Lightfoot classics that most of us sincerely appreciate. It is like stepping back in time for me. I highly recommend this set if you enjoy listening to Gordon.

    The very best musical artist boxset ever???

    the general consensus of opinion of this superb anthological set amongst the legions of Lightheads is that it is a most beautiful production, and whilst one can always quibble about the song selection,bearing in mind Gordon's prodigious out put of fabulous songs, the overall presentation from the comprehensive booklet to the choice of colour backing for each CD is a real class act. I bought it because although myself and my wife already have copies bought as soon as it was released back in 1999. a spare set for a deserving new fan will one day come in handy

    Music review, Gordon Lightfoot, Songbook

    This is probably the best CD set I have purchased in a number of years. The quality of the recording is great, and the artist is one of my personal favorites. Many of the songs in this set tell stories from various aspects of growth and development, this makes them much more interesting to me.
