  • Bud Anderson seems to have lived flying straight away

I read this book recently , as it appeared in german for the first time, I now bought it for a friend in England, with whom I share my passion for flying. Not only do you get a real behind the curtain point of view about the sorrows and dutys of a bloodyoung fighter pilot, but also a fantastic insight of airplanes and experimental aircrafts after WW2. What impressed me most though, was getting to know Bud Anderson, the way he talks about his companions, his superiors and even his enemies in the wars. It's always with respect and a humbleness, one cannot achieve, you'd have to be brought up with. He's not ashamed of his own mistakes or admitting luck, rather than skills sometimes, he would not bow for his own benefits: Straight as straight can be! There's nothing I dislike about the book, I ...

  • Excellent and important aaviation history

Definitely a book to add to anyone's aviation reference shelf. Bud Anderson is a unique and singular American. His career is compelling and it's good that he has put it down on paper for all of us to share, albeit vicariously. Along with other notable aviation people of the earlier generation, Bud Anderson literally 'wrote the book' on military flying! As someone once characterised him, "He's a perfectly humane, compassionate gentleman in regular, ordinary life, but who turns into a wildcat in a cockpit!" One of the few peers General Chuck Yeager has the highest regard for! Don't miss this book about his life and adventures!
