This book is a great aide in learning how to get a photo that is impressive
This was money well spent. If you are anything like me, your T3i is a very expensive point-n-shoot or at least that was the case before purchasing this book. I never moved the mode dial from full auto until I received this publication. Don't get me wrong. The T3i in full auto does a terrific job but I found that in some situations, my photos were less than what I desired. After getting Jeff Revell's "Canon EOS Rebel T3i/600D:From Snapshot to Great Shots", reading through it and applying some of it's suggested techniques, I began to understand how amazing this camera really is and why it won awards. I own three cameras. They were all award winners (Canon S3-is, a configurable DSLR like point and shoot; Olympus Evolt E-500 DSLR; Canon T3i DSLR). They all took terrific photos but my ... I own three cameras. They were all award winners (Canon S3-is, a configurable DSLR like point and shoot; Olympus Evolt E-500 DSLR; Canon T3i DSLR). They all took terrific photos but my photographs never seemed to be quite what I intended for them to be. I assumed that what I needed to improve my photography was an equipment Up-grade. This assumption does hold true but only to a certain point. Each camera in succession was better than the previous model in capability and performance. Still these up-grades did not solve the problem. What I really needed to up-grade was my knowledge and understanding of what I and the camera were doing. This book helped me to understand and my photos have improved dramatically. Maybe, if I had started with this knowledge, I'd still only have one or two cameras because they are all very good with the main difference being the number of pixels that are stuffed onto the sensor. Since I never print larger than 8X10, 6 mega pixels (Canon S3-is) were plenty. There are however a vast array of other differences between all three cameras and I'm not disappointed with either purchase. I guess my point is, had I read this book in the beginning, to help me understand what was going on with my photographs, I could have saved a lot of time and money by not making erroneous assumptions and waited until my knowledge and skills had grown to the point where I could have felt comfortable up-grading to a pro model outfit. This book explains in detail some of the many things that change in a photo from one setting to the next. The author explains the exact causes and the fixes of many problems. He also show before and after photos for you to see the effect of certain settings. Even though the particular functions and how to get to them as mentioned in this book are peculiar to the T3i itself, the functions them selves are not. They can be found on most DSLRs, if you know how to access them and there may be slight differences. I think it's a great teaching tool for learning to use a DSLR. For me this book has become an invaluable tool and I would recommend it to anyone starting out in photography. Now that I have a better understanding of how amazing the T3i is, the settings and how to manipulate them, I can concentrate on up-grading my glass rather than my rig until I'm ready for a full frame set-up.
