About this product

Product Information

A clever chronicle of the commodification of the Pacific Northwest's celebrated "grunge" rock scene, whose members were lifted out of underground obscurity and propelled into the national spotlight--sometimes to their surprise--after the major-label success of the seminal grunge-pop trio Nirvana. Features rare interviews and performances from the gamut of grungesters, from the candy-pop stylings of The Posies to the rage rock of riot grrrls 7 Year Bitch and the country-punk swaggering of the Supersuckers.

Received this movie new as advertised, well packaged for secure shipping. Played perfectly and an excellent addition to my collection. There was a delay in shipping but the seller did respond to my question to say he has had a change in shipping policy to once a week shipping. Apart from that, an overall positive buying experience. I am a repeat customer and recommend this seller.

  • Hype! Pretty good Doc.

I like the film. I don't think it was made late enough though. not enough hind sight. It's always harder to know the importance of something with out a little time. It was gtood though. a lot of great live footage, and good interviews with a lot of lesser known artists. The bonus stuff, and commentaries were very nice feature too. I'd give it an A-. Andrew S

  • All About The "HYPE"

I AM A COUNTRY GIRL AND VERY SELDOM DO I LISTEN TO GRUNGE MUSIC. I MET AND FEEL IN LOVE WITH A WONDERFUL MAN WHO LOVES NIRVANA AND SLIPKNOT. I HAVE LISTENED TO SOME OF THERE MUSIC AND LIKE SOME AND DISLIKE SOME. THIS MOVIE "HYPE" HAS GIVEN ME AN INSIGHT TO WHAT THIS MUSIC IS ALL ABOUT "FEELING THE MUSIC" AND GOING WITH IT. AS A INTELLECTUAL PERSON I SAT AND LISTENED, I MEAN LISTENED TO THE WORDS OF THIS TYPE OF MUSIC AND HEARD SUCH AN EMOTIONAL AND TOUCHING SENSE OF REALITY. I COULD RELATE TO WHAT THE LYRICS WHERE IN MANY OF THE SONGS. "DEAD MEMORIES" AND "LITHIUM"AND "SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT" ARE MY FAVORITE. THERE ARE SOME I LIKE THAT I DON'T KNOW THE TITLES. THIS MOVIE HAS GIVEN ME A GREATER APPRECIATION FOR THIS TYPE OF MUSIC. THANK YOU

  • Hype A movie about Grunge Music for all ages

We are older than the generation that followed grunge music so we appreciated an opportunity to learn about the musicians and hear the music. As with all music genre, some was great, some okay, some really stinks. We liked the sense of humor and intelligence that so many of the interviewees showed, and thought some of the groups were well worth listening to. We have owned a vhs of this since it came out and have just bought it in dvd format.

  • A must for anyone that loves Seattle music!

This DVD reviews the recent history of Seattle music. The band performances and interviews give insight to how Seattle music developed in the late 80's -early 90's. I would suggest reading "Grunge is Dead, the Oral History of Seattle Rock Music" by Gregg Prato along with watching the movie. Then listen to some Seattle music;Jimmy Hendrix, Screaming Trees, Love Battery, The Melvins, Nirvana, and PEARL JAM.

  • Definitive Guide to Seattle Grunge

Hands down my favorite music documentary. Details the rise and fall of the "grunge" movement in Seattle, featuring lots of great bands, famous and obscure. Great live footage. Well edited.
