The Roger Corman-produced cult favorite DEATH RACE 2000 (1975) gets an update in this reworking from action director Paul W.S. Anderson (RESIDENT EVIL). In a role sure to please fans of his work in CRANK (2006) and the TRANSPORTER films, Jason Statham is Frankenstein, the fierce driver portrayed by David Carradine in the original. The script, also by Anderson, largely does away with the original's satirical elements in favor an increased number of breathtaking crashes and stunt driving. In 2012, the American economy has collapsed, and prisons have been taken over by corporations. Overseen by Warden Hennessey (Joan Allen), Terminal Island prison generates immense amounts of revenue with pay-per-view broadcasts of "Death Race," in which inmates participate in an auto race where anything goes. New inmate Jensen Ames (Statham), who has been framed for the death of his wife, is chosen to take over the role of Frankenstein, the contest's recently deceased masked star driver. His chief competitor, Machine Gun Joe (Tyrese Gibson), unaware that a new man is behind the mask of his old rival, will stop at nothing to win. With Case, a sexy navigator from the nearby women's facility, and a trusty pit crew led by wise veteran Coach (Ian McShane), Ames has a good shot at winning. If he does, he's been promised his freedom---but the race holds more obstacles than he can imagine, and ratings are more important to Hennessey than being true to her word. Loud, gory, and lightning fast, DEATH RACE is geared to the video game generation, right down to the graphics that appear onscreen during the race's TV broadcast. Once again, Statham creates a great hero to root for in a performance that rises above the copious stunts and visual effects. Allen, in uncharacteristic role, is suitably imposing as the steely warden.

    "Great Movie"

    Death Race fans you're gonna love this one # 1 in the series alot of Action , Gore , and Blood ! And as usual very intertaining with unstoppable action the race is on again who will it be this time ? Will our hero Frankenstein do it again you've got to see it a must in the series of DEATH RACE !!

    I dont know what to say, lol..

    My husband made me buy this movie as he is a major movie buff and when he sees something he thinks he wants he has to have it. Any who comeing from someone who can barely watch a full tv show before loosing interest I have to say this movie kept me interested the whole way threw. Like most videos to me it was predictable, however, I have never found a movie that I could not predict prior to watching it. I think Tyrese was brave playing a gay guy and think that he could have took his shirt off a few times. I felt bad for Tyreses side men because they always got killed, it was a good thing that he did not. I liked the way the two main charaters plotted many times and worked together to get what they needed or wanted to acomplish their goals. I loved the look on the wardens face when two ...

    99 cent movie off Ebay, mindless entertainment...

    I bought this movie on ebay for a cheap price and the dvd is worth the price I paid for. The director tries to incorporate many ideas into this movie, such as death metal, racing, hot chicks, jail culture, and beefy tough guys all rolled into one. All the actors try to pretend how badass they are and it sometimes works but mostly doesn't. Tyreese Gibson, for example, has a role that he shouldn't have played due to his 'pretty boy' image. Even Jason Statham really doesn't seem to involved with the acting in this movie. Despite throwing in hot actress Natalie Martinez for eye candy, it doesn't help a cheesy plot.

    had to get this for a gift!!! excellent movie!

    movie is full of action... story is great for race fans and action adventure types! Actors played awesome in roles, was well thought out as to who the roles went to... I think it needed more color, so much black in movies(doesn't seem real)but with this story I don't think they were looking for realism.. got it as a gift for a friend who couldn't watch it with me! Valentines day!! heehee!
