Aided by gadgetry whiz Dex Dearborn (Giovanni Ribisi) and enigmatic military commander Franky Cook (Angelina Jolie), Joe and Polly must find out who is responsible for an increasingly elaborate scheme that may trigger the end of the world.A highly stylized, mostly computer-generated spectacle, SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW is a striking cinematic achievement. Steeped in the marvelous visuals of 1930s pop culture, Conran's movie is a loving tribute to that era, featuring clever nods to FLASH GORDON, BUCK ROGERS, and other adventure serials of the time. Beginning in a gloriously slate-gray, towering New York City, this movie follows its heroes from one intriguing locale to the next. Although the remarkable images of the film threaten to eclipse the characters at times, SKY CAPTAIN is very well cast, with the actors pitch-perfect for their respective roles, particularly the luminous Paltrow and the brainy Ribisi. And yet the stunning retro-futuristic design is always at the fore, making for a wonderfully unique movie.

    Interesting approach to a space movie

    Interesting, funny, and full of action -in the 1930s style. I normally like Gwyneth Paltrow movies and this one was quite entertaining although not her best. Good story line and well worth purchasing for your video collection. Just sit back and enjoy it. This particular DVD is in a High Definition (HD) format and was released in 2006. One feature I found unusual is that one of my DVD players will not accept this DVD disc while another one (a newer one with more upgrades) will. Please note that the review is made on the movie and does not reflect on any seller. At the time of writing, the seller is completely unknown

    A live action 50's comic book!

    Wonderful! Visually stunning, and I don't use that phrase! I don't usually write reviews either! This one deserves the effort and the time. No bare breasts, no bare buttocks, no sex and no blood and gore. Plenty of action and romance though! lol So sappy, but such a great movie! It brings the feeling of a 50's soap space serial into the 21st century. The dialog, the shot framing, the feel, the colors, it's as close to a living color comic book as you can get! Fun and fascinating! I've watched it three times in a week! It is now one of my favorite movies of all time. Deep, powerful radio voice-over: "Only Sky Captain and his band of heroes can save the world now!" lol

    Sky Captain

    Well, I am a Computer Graphics major, so this movie was something that i loved a lot, regardless of the story. However, I did think the story was pretty good. some things were a bit out there, but thats expected, since it is a science fiction movie. My copy is an HD-DVD, by far the best HD format, but sadly Blu-ray won. The picture quality is amazing, and the sound was superb. The extras on the disk are pretty amazing too.
