Not what you think
This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. 5 guitar players, 4 drummers. Tons of notable guest singers. And a very touching, albeit haunting, tribute to 9/11. It's a free for all over the top musical blow out that's tightly choreographed and synchronized. Any true rock fan will walk away from this being truly impressed by the quality of the production not only in the show but in the music itself. If all you know about BMG is that they are a bunch of painted dudes making deaf beats by drumming on trash cans, you are dead wrong. Watch it, with your children. Blue Man Group Rocks ---- Alternatively of course.
I bought this music video because I'd seen the BMG in person but had not seen the Complex Rock Tour show. One of the features I loved about the video and the reason why I bought it was it featured Venus Hum lead songstress and siren Annette Strean and that fabulous electric dress. Unfortunately Strean's singing career and tours with Venus Hum were temporarily, or as some might argue, permanently derailed due to a serious throat condition Strean suffers. This album features Strean performing a repackaged alternative rock version of "I'm in Love" from our near-long-forgotten disco era. Strean's vocals are impressive and colorful. Its a miracle that the video was made featuring her, but a terrible shame that we might never hear her vocals again. At least not the way she sand them. The ... I bought this music video because I'd seen the BMG in person but had not seen the Complex Rock Tour show. The tour video includes other guest entertainers who contribute music and lyrics to the show. Briefly the video opens in classic BMG style with an at-first subtle tube, a curtain obscuring what appears to be a single performer drumming on some tubes, and then slides into a dramatic crescendo. As the curtain is lifted the "orchestra" is revealed and one counts at least 4 drummers, 4 guitars and numerous other musicians onstage. What makes this performance "complex" is the use of conventional alternative rock performers, conventional rock musicians, and a blend of all of the above with the traditional BMG instruments (essentially PVC pipes and other objects beaten with kitchen spatulas, drum sticks and the like). Interspersed with this musical performance is a humorous narration by an off-screen, professional movie-trailer narrator, and some cute video effects on a huge screen monitor behind the band; all of which are followed by the Blue Men as they fake being naive' and perform brilliantly. This one's a keeper and there are no trade-ins allowed.

We ABSOLUTELY LOVE the Blue Man Group. They are original, quirky, and very talented. They put on the best stage shows.The BMG interacts with the audience in funny and crazy ways, and if they didnt have the audience participation I dont think it would be as spectacular a show. They do the craziest skits, the cereal, the twinkies, it hilarious! The BMG definetly thinks OUTSIDE THE BOX. The neon and black lighting they use just totally rocks! If U get a chance to go to a live show GO FOR IT!!! You wont be disappointed. If U get cant, then DEFINETLY buy yourself a copy of the DVD. Oh yeah and by the way, we first saw them on PBS. A Unique Concert Expirence
I saw a few minutes of the "Blue Man Group" on our local public tv station and thought "I have to get this". It is a completly unique concert that blends humor, music and visuals with a dash of dance and thought provoking lirics. A high energy event that is a work of art in every aspect. It is something you can share with family and friends without being embarased about content. I will look for more of the work from this incredible group.I saw a few minutes of the "Blue Man Group" on our local public tv station and thought "I have to get this". The basics of BMG are in there: pure rock, Seuss-like instruments, humor, popculture/social critic, mystery and mesmerizing. It seems, however, that each successive disc covers up more and more of these basics, sometimes literally with haze and gratuitous lighting; other times with unnecessary vocals, neglected instruments, and special effects. This particular disc is somewhere in the middle: still captivating for its BMG essence but short on creative elaboration of those basics. There even are a few audible glitches. Since the early performances are rare on DVD, I am pleased to have this one, despite its flaws. It is easy to find a reason to like a BMG performance. Maybe you will even like the smoke and vocals of this concert "show". I have found another reason: strangely, the ...
