Once again on Wii and for the first time on PlayStation 3, Marvelous Entertainment's curious Rune Factory series sets sail for fantasy-themed adventure and kindhearted community-building. In Tides of Destiny, a young hero travels the seas and surveys new islands, seeking dungeons to explore, monsters to defeat, and rare treasures to claim. As in the developer's Harvest Moon games, characters improve their lot in the long term, by investing their time and resources in the land. They may also meet, marry, and make new families with villagers and townsfolk. From a third-person perspective, combat plays out in a pause-able, real-time flow. Various weapons allow for a selection of magic and melee combo moves. Fallen enemies often drop materials that can be used in crafting new and more powerful items. As the game progresses, players may take up to three pets along with them on their adventures. Pets help fight in battles and have distinct special abilities. Additionally, different kinds of pets are required to help raise different kinds of crops, so there are important advantages in having a diverse stable and keeping it well. Gamers can play as a boy or a girl, and at the beginning of the story, as both. After an unexplained, cosmic event, two young friends find they have been changed, and so has the world around them. Sonja's body is missing, and her soul is now in Aden's body -- along with his own. If players can find Sonja's missing body, they can return her soul to it, and she becomes a separate playable character. Once they have mastered the secrets of the enormous golem, Ymir, players can use him to travel across the ocean, battle gigantic sea monsters, and raise sunken islands from the briny depths.

Underrated and a lot of fun
One of the better Rune Factory games. I do wish that it had portraits like Frontier- but overall as I game I prefer the ease of farming and the ability to play as a girl eventually (as limited as my marriage choices may be).

Good game that could be better.
Rune Factory is one of the most engaging and fun series in recent years. The mixture of farming, date simulation and combat makes a perfect and sometimes caothic combo for an addictive game. Tides of Destiny is the first entry in the series to explore the potential of a HD console like the PS3, unfortunally some gameplay decisions and shortcomings affect the debut of this game: 1.- The combat was turned into a buttom smashing: Sure the series has never had a good combat system but this version is the worst of the 5. 2.- MOVE control (optional) is useless: Makes the combat even worse, plus other actions in the game are imprecise and tedius 3.- Some of the quest and activities are boring and repetitive. Overall, the game is ok. But the last 4 games (Rune Factory 1, 2, 3 and Frontier) ... Rune Factory is one of the most engaging and fun series in recent years. Better then the ds and 3ds versions
I really love this game and I think it's better then the others especially that it's 3d instead of the top bottom view like the others. I love the farming part its a lot of fun and I like that there are a lot of things that we can level up to keep us busy. The graphics are amazing there are some lag but that doesn't take away the game play experience for me it doesn't bother me I still enjoyed it. And I also love the dungeon design and it's still a lot of fun exploring them. Don't know why most of the reviews talk about how bad this game is or how unenjoyable this game is its a lot of fun and also patient about leveling up and the lags don't bother me and I actually enjoy leveling up its one of the best parts about this game to me :) overall 10/10 from me amazing game :)I really love this game and I think it's better then the others especially that it's 3d instead of the top bottom view like the others. Rune factory Tides of Destiny was awesome i bought the game because i'm a big fan of the rune factory series and when i found out that it was on ps3 i had to buy it. As for likes and dislikes the game arrived a lot faster than i expected, also was cheap :D which is always a big plus for me more money for other games. The good thing about rune Factory is that you can do so much e.g: - You can go around smashing monsters left and right - The farming system is weird but its still really good helps you keep track of the many things that there is to do, also crops don't rot well least not to my knowledge - I like the festivals the really give you a good challenge for some of them especially the warrior one. - My favorite part of the game is all the exploring and fight colossal monsters with ... As for comparisons it was really good I've played rune factory 1 2 3 on ds and this is really taking a big step forward, rune factory is improving a lot and coming up with many more cool things to do or cooler ways to do them i recon so far this will have to be my favorite.
