This DVD was a lot more informative than I thought it would be.
The DVD is basically a lecture given by David Blume about Alcohol as a fuel for cars in particular. It helped me to understand the history of alcohol as an internal combustion engine fuel. A lot of debate about alcohol centers around the Energy Return on Energy Investment for corn ethanol. However, the best thing I got out of this is that other agricultural products such as sugar cane and sugar beets, etc., can have a far greater EROEI than corn. Also, in many important ways, Alcohol is a far better fuel than gasoline as it is cleaner and more efficient. Also it gives insights about how the oil industry, with huge amounts of monetary influence, has historically and currently repressed public debate and information about alcohol as a fuel. For instance, Henry Ford favored alcohol as a ... The DVD is basically a lecture given by David Blume about Alcohol as a fuel for cars in particular. Partly because of this DVD, I also bought the book "Alcohol can be a Gas" by David Blume. I do not yet have a fully developed opinion as to whether bio-fuels have a great future or can "save" industrial society or automobile transportation as we know it. However, I do believe, now, that ethanol (as long as it is not totally corn based) has a chance to save some remnant of our technical civilization. This DVD will at least get you thinking about possibilities. For instance in regard to velomobile cars, alcohol could compete with electric velomobile cars (see low tech magazine web site for more information on velomobile cars). Other crazy but not necessarily far-fetched ideas could come to mind.
