    J.S. Bach by Albert Schweitzer-Vol 1 (1967, Paperback)

    This is my second reading of this book that consists of two (2) volumes. It is very intense, detailed and well-researched reading of Johann Sebastian Bach by the great philanthropic humanist, doctor and musician, Dr. Albert Schweitzer. In volume 1, Doctor Scheitzer covers the life of Bach and how he was influenced and self-educated in his mastery of music. Dr. Scheitzer cites the writings of Forkell and Spitta in his research on Bach's life as a great master of the musical arts. Dr. Schweitzer discusses in great detail what the typical Protestant (Lutheran) worship service was like in the first half of the eighteenth century and how is shaped the church music that J.S. Bach wrote and performed. We also have a glimpse as to how other fellow musicians contemporaries, particularly ...
