X-Men Legends is a real-time role-playing game where players put together their own team of X-Men heroes to combat such legendary foes as the Morlocks, Brotherhood of Mutants, and Sentinels. In true role-playing game fashion, players control their group of X-Men characters to take advantage of each individual's special powers and abilities while in combat. As each character becomes more experienced in battle, his or her powers will grow over time and new fighting moves become available to help the character develop into a more formidable opponent. <br><br>Players will assemble their party from a lineup of more than 15 characters, including popular favorites Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Gambit, and Beast. Certain locales may require stealth to avoid alarm systems or traps, making Wolverine or Nightcrawler more valuable team members, while multiple enemies may be more quickly dealt with using the crushing power of Colossus or the Beast. Players will have to carefully weigh the pros and cons of each superhero before forming the party and beginning a mission. <br><br>Once a mission begins, players can switch control between the mutants at any time and can even implement combo moves between specific characters, such as Wolverine's and Colossus' "fastball special" maneuver, which has Colossus picking up Wolverine and tossing him at a foe to dole out heavy damage. Up to four players can join in the adventuring together, working as a team or honing their superhero skills from within the Danger Room training ground. Man of Action, a four-man production company of veteran comic book authors, wrote the game's storyline.

An Older Game that Really Holds Up Well!
X-Men Legends is a game I loved years ago, but didn't know if it would still be fun. Some games just don't age well. I bought a copy for a great price and gave it a try this summer and had a blast. The video cut scenes are very dated, which is the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. The gameplay, however, is still super fun and I think the graphics hold up VERY well here. Fans of the X-Men comics will love X-Men Legends, which is an action/RPG with top notch graphics (especially the cinemas), excellent voice acting, and a great story written by writers of the X-Men comics. Choosing from about a dozen X-Men, the player makes up a group of (up to) 4 X-Men and lead them into battle. Of those four, you can switch characters anytime by hitting one of the directional buttons on the PS2 Controller. You can also change your team members at the various save points in the game, which comes in handy if one of your X-Men is low on health or has died. Playable characters include favorites like Wolverine, Gambit, Rogue, and Cyclops, along others like Ice Man, Nightcrawler, Beast, Jean Greay, and even the Snow Queen herself, Emma Frost. Each X-Men has his/her special ... Fans of the X-Men comics will love X-Men Legends, which is an action/RPG with top notch graphics (especially the cinemas), excellent voice acting, and a great story written by writers of the X-Men comics. Choosing from about a dozen X-Men, the player makes up a group of (up to) 4 X-Men and lead them into battle. You'll also run into other non-playable characters like Forge and Moira McTaggert. The X-Men in the game wear the costumes/outfits seen in the "Ultimate X-Men" comics, but there are various missions in the game where you can to be outfitted in some cool classic X-Men costumes, which is a nice treat for X-Men fans. As mentioned the game features a great story, which for X-Men fans, makes this good game even better. The story draws you in, and keeps you going, despite some pretty long missions. You battle Magneto & his Brother of Evil Mutants, try to stop a zealous general & his Sentinels, and even visit the Astral Plane to tango with Shadow King. As you can imagine, the game is pretty big. I came in expecting to finish it in 5-8 hours of playing time, but it ended taking me over 50 hours! But this was mostly because I struggled with some of the bosses in the game. On the subject of the game's length, here's where one of the two flaws in game comes in. While this is a huge game, one of the things contributing to the game length is the long load times (well, at least in the this PS2 version). Going to one area to another will trigger a long load screen, and switching team members at save points will do this as well. Therefore let's say you're having trouble fighting in one area in the game and need to keep switching chracters at save points. Well, what normally should take a couple of seconds will now take several minutes and this adds up to longer play time. The other flaw is that the game froze up on me quite a bit (at least 10 times), but might just be my copy of the game or my PS2. Still, even with these flaws, overall I had a great time playing X-Men Legends, and I'm sure you will too, especially if you like the X-Men comics or like story-driven action games. Graphics: 5 (some of the best on PS2, great cinemas, but some slowdown) Sound: 4 (music is alright, but top-notch voice acting) Controls: 4 (controls are mostly responsive, except during the mentioned slowdown periods; also jumping doesn't feel quite right sometimes) Fun Factor: 5 (the game is a blast to play, especially if you're an X-Men fan) Overall: 4 (Recommended for fans of X-Men and those who like story-driven action games)

The environments are extremely detailed and characters can often be destroyed in some fairly satisfying ways. There is an overall lack of voice acting. The lines that can be delivered by more than one character are in text across ... Most importantly it is a generally fun game to play for all participants.

One of the Best X Men Games
If you're into Marvel Comics , especially X Men , then this game is for you . Decent story , its not short , and you get to play as some of your favorite X Men . 2 Player Couch Co Op or 4 players if you have a Ps2 Multi Tap . Highly Recommended X Men game .
