Who would expect a movie with less than five words spoken in English would hold any interest but surprise it does. No, this is not a foreign film in that sense. This is a satirical movie about pre-historical events in an oversimplified way. A true laff fest with some top name artists, and seldom seen for sale. Keep this movie around for times you need a bit of silly entertainment.
First of all, this is not an Oscar-quality movie a la the Beatles song, "Act Naturally" that Ringo sang in 1965. It's a low-budget movie with inadequate "special effects" even for the early 1980s. Having said that, the movie is entertaining in a campy sort of way and offers a bit of eye candy for the teenage boy set. Synopsis: RIngo plays a relatively clumsy yet clever caveman who craves the loins of cavewoman Barbara Bach. His affections gets him thrown out of the tribe. He quickly gathers a collection of misfits from other tribes, all the while putting to work discoveries such as fire and walking erect. Ringo's lust for Bach leads to conflict with his former tribe, even as fellow outcast Shelley Long tries to win Ringo's affection.First of all, this is not an Oscar-quality movie a la the Beatles song, "Act Naturally" that Ringo sang in 1965. A must have if u're a child of the 80s-wont disappoint
Don't know why, but lately I've been just thinking of all the movies that I saw when I was a kid. This film--- Caveman--- is one of them. During my reminiscing, I remembered the silly antics of the characters, the various creatures, the landscape/scenery and of course the musical score. So this was one DVD that I had to have... ...And it didnt disappoint! The memories came flooding back the minute it began with Atouk searching for his "ool". The storyline was never meant to be Oscar quality, but it was still enjoyable even in the midst of its simplistic silliness. Even the qualtiy of the 1980s animation made me laugh as it too is now as prehistoric as the setting itself. But it's all in good fun. And fun it was, watching that film again. Worth the money if, like me, you need a trip down the lighter side of memory lane or you just need a small escape from the mundane pressures of today.

Good Title, CLASSIC, good for my collection
Ringo Starr's part was excellent, Shelly Long did a great job, could see the star quality comming out in her acting. Atrouk's love for Launa (Barbara Bauch) who does a good acting job, is good. Tonda (John Matuszak) does a great job as Leader & Lana's mate. Dennis Quaid also does a great job with his STAR qulity showing. It's just an around good movie for the whole family to see and a great addition to my collection. I love shelly long
Ringo, shelly long,dennis quaid all do a great job in this campy movie. They barely say one word but get a lot across while having me laughing myself silly. The invention of music is my fave part..anyone who enjoys comedy should see this at least once
