This series takes some of literature's most famous horror stories and adapts them with accompanying, chilling illustrations. With different adapters and illustrators, the narrative and style of each is quite different. Word bubbles are slightly too small and are written in a font that is difficult to read at times. Readers used to graphic novels will effortlessly navigate the layouts, and those new to the genre will appreciate the creative idiosyncrasies of each illustrator. In Chilling Tales of Horror, the adaptations do not capture of the essence of fear in each thrilling tale. Poe and Frankenstein do, which makes for more rounded stories. The woodprints in Frankenstein are gorgeous and the simple b&w illustrations lend an eerie contrast. Most stories make reference to violence, murder, lunacy, or death.     Moody & Cartoony Classics

    7 "classic" stories. Pedro Rodriguez has a highly-detailed style that mixes dark, moody colors with a cartoony style that would be at home on Saturday morning cartoons. I bought this for Poe's "The Black Cat", and was surprised how much of the story he managed to "play" with while still generally being faithful to its source. I wonder how much he changed with the others? A very entertaining package!
