Before George Carlin, before Richard Pryor, before Bill Maher; and, during a time in which America was deathly afraid of Communitsts and opinions outside of the norm, Lenny Bruce forced the nation to look at its foilbles and fallacies. Bruce boldly went where no comic had gone before, pioneering a style of in-your-face commentary that was also rip-roaringly funny. Even though "The Carnegie Hall Concert" was recorded in February 1961, his takes on religion, homosexuality, Communism, and others hold the same power to provoke both deep thought and hysterical laughter. I once owned the record album of the concert that had been trimmed to under 40 minutes; however, the concert in its entirety is nothing short of a field day for alert minds. At this concert Lenny Bruce proved his innate ...
