VHS decks now often come as add-ons to DVD players, and have the quality of second thoughts: as though the manufacturers don't expect you will actually play videotapes. Such units play your tapes badly or eat them. The solution is to find a dedicated VHS player of high specifications--used or new in stock. This JVC unit I'm reviewing is a superb example of the type. It is a Super VHS unit with excellent picture and sound . I doubt I will ever use the Super VHS capacity, but I play tapes all the time and need the quality of this machine. JVC was always a high-level VHS manufacturer, and this unit has the features of a premium player. The picture is remarkablty good, and the player adjusts tracking quickly and well. The sound is excellent HiFi stereo. I could not have afforded a ... The remote control gives you access to fine control of playback, slow motion, and still frame; this player could be used for editing tapes. It has a jog-shuttle dial, which makes editing much easier. If you have a decent tape collection that you want to continue viewing at their optimum, I reommend you purchase this unit or a similar high-level JVC deck. It is far, far better than any player you will find paired with a DVD unit. They don't make these great decks anymore; get one while they are still available new or nearly new. JVC machines are even better than I had heard.

Retro Technolgy
The unit performs very well with good picture quality using any format VHS tape. Using a newer TV without RCA jack inputs, you need an RCA to HDMI adapter for connecting the unit.
