This is Classic Doctor Who
The Ark in Space is the second story arc of the legendary Tom Baker era of Doctor Who. This is Classic Doctor Who and a must have for the Who collector. The production values aren't great, but then again, short of the recent new episodes on the BBC, when were they? The terrible production values are part of what makes classic Who fun. In many ways, it actually helps the viewer to focus on story. The entirety of the story takes place on a space station harboring the remants of humanity in cryogenic suspension, some thousands of years into the future. (literally an ark in space). These survivors were selected to be sent into space (two by two, so to speak) because the earth was about to become uninhabitable. Enter The Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith, and Harry Sullivan. They explore the station as it prepares to begin unthawing the human beings. Except for the one little problem, another staple of Classic Who, the alien menace. In this particular instance the menace goes by the name of Wirrn. An insectoid species that survives, improbably, in the vacuum of space most of the time...oh yeah, and they can turn people into creatures like themselves. Hence, the ark in space is a gigantic breeding ground for these great beasties. The Doctor goes about trying to set things right in the trademark bizarre and erratic manner that defined the Baker era.
